Just saw the trailer for this game and I have to say that I thought it was a huge joke at first. A new 2D Megaman on the Wii, I was expecting gorgeous hand drawn sprites and backgrounds. Instead we get capcom using the old megaman engine to make megaman 9. Yes the old megaman NES engine, the same engine capcom used in every single one of it's nes games. The colour palette is limited and the music is exactly the same tiny synthesiser from the nes. Even the old sprites for enemies, megaman and the stage tilesets are used. What the hell is going on?

Then I realised the genius of it. Who the hell cared about any of the megaman games after the Nes games. I have Megaman anniversary collection and played it non-stop until I finished Megaman 6. I played a few levels of MM 7 on the SNES and put it away and haven't touched it since.

Also although the later games got dull and went slightly down hill, Megaman 2 and 3 are two of the greatest games ever made. Even the music was excellent in them producing some classic quality tracks from the pitiful nes sound chip.

I for one can't wait for this. I'll be hoping for MM 2 and 3 quality but even if it only lives up to the later games it will be very refreshing to play a brandnew commercial game that is over 20 years out of date :)

I was never a fan of the MM franchise, then again I was a Sega kid

Scratch that, I was an Atari 7800 kid and a Sega teen

Well most of the megaman games aren't as great as most people make them out to be but Megaman 2 and 3 really are amazing games. They are however a bit difficult to get into since they have a pretty step learning curve which most people these days wouldn't be used to.

They got away with the learning curves back than as the games were a bit more simplistic (that is not a dig at them, just talking about the amount of things that can happen on the screen at any time)

Games now days have so much going on from the get go, that soft curves need to be the norm

Its a fantastic concept, check out the box art and you'll fall in love (http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14260822/mega-man-9/images/mega-man-9-20080717020802013.html)

Now if only Sega could do the same thing with the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise i'd be in retro heaven
