Learning to mix?

    Hey,

i was considering doing a night course in either music production or compostition over the next few months, but the thought came to me that I have always wished I could mix. People I have spoken to in the past have said that to learn you need to buy decks and just fool around.

Is there an alternative? Is there anywhere you can learn the ropes? Its not just mixing two dance tracks that I'm after, I would love to experiment in writing and remixing old stuff. To start with I would love to learn how to DJ though.

I love dance music and I listen to a huge amount of it, but as far as Djing goes, I am a complete virgin.

    Would love advice on it!

    Cheers

It's a common enough question here with a few variants which tend to end up in the regulars debating as to which format is best... i.e. Vinyl vs CD vs MP3 etc. There are a few threads on the go surrounding this topic, have a look back over the pages and you'll find a few.

Also, I would recommend reading both of the below books listed on Amazon...

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Last-Night-DJ-Saved-Life/dp/0755313984/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1216323832&sr=8-1

Bottom line though is basically if you want to learn how to DJ, you will need to invest time and money in some format of equipment to mix tunes. Definitely read the above books though, highly recommend.
