Get Des to sort it out for ya, tightening it too much can have the same effect.

Make the bed squeek then try pinpoint where it is making the noise then lube her up ;)

Just burst into the room when you hear squeaking and say you though you heard mice, that'll soon put a stop to it

Not being a smartarse , honestly ! But if its the wood (I mean the timber) try a smudge of vaseline on it.... Or get the old screwdriver out and tighten up all those joints...

    have tightened the joints

i am going to try talcum powder and then give the vaseline a try

No WD40 will most likely do **** all apart form make the bed stink. Its a loosening agent. Get some wood oil, or use superclue around all the joints, best of luck taking it apart at any stage though.

****ing WD40, some people thinks its for everything..

I'd second that. Maybe loosen them off a bit and see what happens. If there are legs on the bed rather than a flat base then lift and spread the legs(leave it!) and see if that helps. Most squeaks from beds come at the joint between the base and the headboard. WD40 won't do much unless its the bolts themselves that are squeeking, which is common.

If it is the bolts, forget wd40 it's not thick enough. Get some proper grease take out the bolts one by one and grease the threads on the bolts. Reassemble and voila. If you can't get proper grease, then vaseline will do in a pinch, but it doesn't last long.

I've had a lot of squeeky beds in my life, not that often in a good way....:p

A good screw is what you need actually.

...no, seriously, it's a screw you need. Find the offending latte?/joint, and add another screw. WD-40 will do nothing for wood.

Linseed oil stinks like feet - I wouldn't use it in a bed room. Also - I can't see it stopping a squeek. Varnish perhaps, but not oil or stain. ???

Not all linseed oil stinks. A screw could work too.

How about just buy a new base? Head out to the mun and im sure bargain city will sort ya with a new base. Well when i say new, it was probably repoed from a family of scobies.

Buy an airbed and they can sleep on the floor. I'm sure they wouldn't be getting up to anything much to make the bed squeak anyway, that would be an awful embarrassing thing to do in someone else's house. ;)

This is what will really help- WD40 etc is way too runny for wood- you need something a lot more viscous- like vaseline :)

If she's using WD40 for lube I doubt she has any vaseline lying about TBH.:P

find the squeeky joint and rub some candle wax onto the joint. WD40 wont last as it dries in/evaporates, vaseline shouldn't be wasted on a bed, and talcum powder won't do very much at all.

+1 Hot candle wax will sort out your squeaky wood :D

Seriously though, pour hot wax around the offending joints - and if they're already tightened, loosen the joints to allow the wax to soak in...

god the filth coming from this thread is something awful, the candle wax is a good idea. you said you know where on the bed is squeeking? is it a joint or what?

Well, it may not be polite, but you will just have to ask your friends to behave themselves. I know if somebody stayed in my house and started at it and made loads of noise, I would not be impressed. Even if the bed wasn't squeaky, or if they pulled the headboard away from the wall.

Now there's a lady who might be able to give you some advice.

Airbeds are only for those type of guests you wouldn't really want staying again. It sends a strong message, I think - "Thanks, but don't call us again".

LOL, this was a serious question but the depravity of the lot of you
