Inaccurate Race Datails

I started my running year by highlighting the races on the BHAA Website & in Irish Runner magazine that I might run during the year, but as the year has progressed I have noticed several glaring mistakes re incorrect distances/ incorrect Dates/ and/ or both ...........

The latest Error is the Portaferry 10k (next Tuesday) which is still advertised as a 10k Road Race (& also as a 10 Miler) depending on what Magazine or website you look at, (Irish Runner Mag have it listed as a 10k taking place last Tuesday) :)

Just wondering if anybody else has picked up on odd Race dates & incorrect race distances? from running publications & websites in Ireland & beyond.

I should point out that BHAA & Irish Runner magazine are Not responsible for the errors I speak of, itrs really just down to the organisers of a few small events who have got their legs/wires crossed due to various unforseen reasons? Portaferry 10k (10 Mile) being the latest . . .

www.irishrunner.ie is the website, but the race info I use is from the 'Irish Runner' 2008 Annual ................

They were at the last few racing handing out a free mag and form to subscribe.

On the Inaccurate race details, I havent found this to be true myself, planned all my races for the year from the Bhaa and found them all to be grand. Only one race this year was changed and the race org let us know weeks beore about the change in plan.

I know it a pain when it happains, but there are more than a 1000 races a year in ireland. if you fancy doing the run i allways try and make contact with the club or what ever via the contact detail of websites or what ever. ther other thing is at the start of the year when we get dates and put them in the system on http://bhaa.ie , the clubs will change details and not inform us!!

It was next weeks so called 10k 'up North' that sparked me into putting pen to paper so to speak, because I had been building-up & training for one of the few 10ks around this year, but it is actually 10 Miles long . . . (I phoned up for directions) :)

I might give it a miss?

Just as a sideline, if you're looking out for 10K races to do, Kilmore Athletics Club in Co. Wexford have one coming up on 13th September. Thought I'd let you know as I don't know how well publicised it is. There's a link with details on their website www.kilmoreathletics.com

In fairness Arthur isn't the Irish Runner' 2008 Annual published around Dec/Jan? If so there is bound to be the odd change/error over such a long time. Best practise is to seek out the latest situation with each race from the particular club or org.

However you do raise a sort of a related point. ie there is'nt one single point where all road/CC/trail/mountain race details can be accessed in a structered and up to date format. I often though that this would be a good idea for a specialised website! Anyone???

Thank you Lisapeep for the Kilmore 10k tip, I will look into it in more detail & check it out soon, I just wish there were more 10ks around locally (greater Dublin area).

And thank you Geld for your suggestions, its just an old habit of mine where I would rely on 'Runners World' or whatever running mag that had a Calender for the year, I would then highlight the races I wanted to do & plan my weekends around them ~ in future I will check out the websites too, just to be sure . . .

I like the good mix of races around in Dublin, there are lots of 10ks fo rme, 3-4 a year is lots, I like to race different distances it keeps you sharp for different races, this year I've done the following races, 2 mile , 5k , 5 mile 10 k ,
