Magic Eye Question

Hi folks,I was thinking of getting one of the Magic Eyes but I would appreciate if anyone could clarify whether, with my current set up, it would work.

Set up is:Terrestrial Aerial,2 digiboxes,1 dvd recorder connected to main tv and feeding the bedroom and kitchen by single coaxes. I can watch all channels and dvd on all tv's.

I just want to be able to operate one of the sky decoders independently in the kitchen.I have been advised by a person I know to buy the magic eye for the kitchen and feed the coax for that TV into the magic eye and then connect the eye to the aerial socket on tv and that should work ok.

Would anyone mind clarifying if that is correct and should work? many thanks

You have to have a coaxial cable running from the output socket on you sky box directly into the magic eye which in turn connects into the back of your tv.Sometimes if you run it through sockets the ability to change channels will not work. You will have a perfect picture but cannot change channels. You can identify if it is working if there is a red light lighting on the connection of the magic eye into the TV.

Thanks. that would mean I would have to run a separate cable from the sky box in question to the kitchen tv meaning I would then have two cables to go into the tv and there is only one aerial socket??

On my original set up I have the various cables from dvd, digiboxes etc going into a splitter and then one main cable running to the kitchen...

Can anyway say if there is a possibility it may work as is or is it a definate non runner?

    cheers

I have a similar set-up but I am using a splitter/amplifier to boost the signal. This is the one I have: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Satellite-T140-4-Way-Global-TV-Link-Splitter-Amp_W0QQitemZ250269092350QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250269092350&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318

I have a co-ax cable going from the back of my Sky box into the attic, connected to the input of the amplifier, then 2 feeds, one each to bedroom and downstairs TV.

Two magic eyes work fine, did not work previously without the amplifier. Also tried a Philex amplifier, but that didn't work either. For shorter distances, the Magic Eye might work unamplified (up to 10m distance?), but splitting the signal does degrade it.

    Hi thanks for that info.
A work buddy actually has 3 magic eyes in action and he's going to lend me one to try out first so at least I can see what happens before I purchase. There is only about 7 metres from the main digibox/tv to the kitchen tv so perhaps it may work. If not i will look at that gadget you mention!

    cheers

    Don't forget two important things....

    1. It needs to be fed from the RF2 output as this is the one that carries the 12V signal down the co ax to power the eye.

    2. You need to go into the engineers menu and switch on the 12V signal as out of the box it is not switched on.

To access the Installers Menu, use the following set of key presses:

    SERVICES, 4, 0, 1, SELECT.

In the RF output section switch on 12V power!

    Good Luck!

pull out the coax in the back of your tv in the kitchen. plug the cable into the magic eye, then plug the cable into the tv. if it doesn't work, check you have a red light on the magic eye. if not it is not getting power. if no power, plug it into the rf 2 output from the back of you sky box and see if power there. if not, you need to turn on power as mentioned above.

if there is power there, and no power in the kitchen, it could be that the aerial socket faceplates on your wall aren't allowing athe dc power signal to pass. some of them have capacitors in series with the signal which stops dc. if this is the case you need to chahge the faceplate to one that doesn't block the power, but that is a very simple job.

Do the services 4 0 1 in bulk instead of going 4, 0, 1 etc.

    See instructions here http://satcure.net/tech/split.htm
    and here http://satcure.net/tech/tvlink2.htm

If you read and understand all of that, you should have no problems getting it to work.

Thanks for all the help with this.

Just to advise I got it to work! Bought a distribution amplifier with 4 inputs/ 1 output. Fed the cable which disconnects everything when pulle out through the input socket along with the cable from the RF2 Socket on the sky box and put the terrestrial aerial, and cables for kitchen and bedroom tvs through the input sockets. picture on everything is ok same as before but perhaps some wavy lines noticeable on some channels

Only thing I may have done wrong is only have one input socket as I had to use a splitter for the main cable and rf2 cable. Can anyone advise if I was to get one with 2 inputs, ie one each for magic eye cable main cable that things would improve somewhat? The place in Lmk that I bought it from said they only had them with one input but would probably take it back if I sourced one somewhere else.Or is there a better spitter suitable for the one I have?

    thanks
