Ok Dave, not a ladies opinion here or anything as I'm sure you can tell by my user name but just to get the ball rolling for you all the same. Personally I prefer pin striped styled suits in either black or dark grey and above all a good fit on the fella wearing it is a must. Thats my own personal taste and I'm sure you will get other different various replies to your question.

cool, cheers for that..for some reason iv always liked a smart grey suite but would probably end up with the safe option of the pin striped..i wouldnt like to stand out for the wrong reason!

Now, John, you've to wear clothes in proportion to your physique. There are definite dos and don'ts, good buddy of wearing a bold striped shirt. A bold stripe shirt calls for solid colored or discreetly patterned suits and ties.

jet black suit, jet black shirt + red/white tie = swooooon.

Dark Navy suit almost black with dark brown shirt with matching belt and shoes.

The trick is to get the shirt shoes and belt the exact same colour.

As for the 2 or 3 buttons that depends on your size.

that's the sort of suit that people who don't like wearing suits wear. it's like saying Budweiser is a really good beer

it all depends on a number of things... your skin and hair colour, how tall/small/fat/thin you are, and what colour shirts you'd rather wear.

    2 button better than 3
    slim fit / modern fit
no pleats (folds near pockets) in pants
light grey or charcoal / dark grey best colour
keep pinstripes thin - stripes no wider than 2/3 inch
shirts depend on colour of suit - no stripy shirts together with stripy suits
quality of wool makes a difference - higher thread count (100s or 120s) is better
brown shoes good with grey suits - black for all other colours
doesn't have to be a Zegna suit - lots of cheaper places do decent suits these days - just make sure that it fits and stay away from green and brown ones...

Type of suit is a subjective (and depends on who's wearing it) choice.
I like 2-button and anything but chalk stripe.

The main thing with any suit is that it fits properly.
Seriously, if you ever get the chance to try on a
well-fitted suit you'll instantly see how good it looks
regardless of colour or anything like that.

Grey is very 'now', and can look stunning in a quality matt wool fabric, off-set with a crisp white shirt and dark grey tie, or dark striped tie with black, grey and fine white colouring.

Fair enough, having the jawbones tends to be an added bonus, but you get the idea. Also works very well with a brown tie, ivory shirt and brown shoes and belt. The linear tissue a lovely subtle modern touch that lifts the whole ensemble.

Similarly a dark slim fitting suit with fine pinstripe is also very hot, and can be dressed down (as below) or up as appropriate. It could be made more mature with appropriately chosen shirt, tie and shoes.
