    Hi all,

Anyone use a free and simple to use photoblog they would recommend? Feel free to post links so we/I get a feel for what your referring to.

I need one that is fairly intuitive, preferably free with the ability to upload new images regularly. Im familiar with Flickr and while i like the simple intuitive design its now full of porn and Id rather have a site that family can look at without any risk of seeing anything like that. I dont have a blog myself so Im fairly new to all of this.

    Thanks in advance

It did become a bit 'pornier' in the last few months, mind.

I use flickr, but I'd like to use a website that lets me write about my pictures, too. I don't know any ones out there other than flickr or pix, though!

deviantart might be an option as it gives you some options to write about the pictures, but again it's got a mature content gallery.

I have never seen porn on flickr. Is it really possible to land on it accidentally? I mean I don't go out of my way to look for it but I've just not happened across it either and I've plenty of other more interesting stuff to look for like kitesurfers, lighthouses and pictures of Brittany in France.

My photoblog is a wordpress install and the photos are hosted on flickr. I believe you can do this with blogger as well. wordpress.com might be an option.

I don't know how computer lit the OP is though.

Calina> how difficult is/was that to set up? Hosting them on Flickr the way you suggested sounds interesting.

The idea for the photoblog would be that I can upload numerous photos regular and write a little too. Flickr is nice but has proved increasingly hard(er) to maintain with the increase adult nature of the content. With the advent of video submissions this has increased imo. Finally, and perhaps most pertinent Id rather have a site that I can redirect family and clients to and know that they wont stumble onto anything questionable be it artistic nude or something of a harder nature. I hope that goes some way in explaining where im coming from..

    Okay,

I bought my own domain and hosting service. My hosting had an automatic wordpress installer so I did that, and then in Extend Flickr, I set it up to be able to post to the blog. You need to give it a password and username AFAIR.

I upload to flickr, and then use the "blog this" button to write a blog post and post image to the site. Alternatively, go to all sizes and grab the HTML and insert it into the posting page of the blog.

Most of this site is done that way.

I don't have the issues you have with flickr. Mostly I point people towards sets in my flickr gallery and the only possible way they can stumble on nudity is if they leave my pages and actually go looking for it. Like I said above, I have never stumbled across any nudity on flickr.

Maybe your parents have a child protection software on your pc
I was added by a "dublin couple" before who obviously enjoyed taking pics of just his wife

We (at Pixie) will be providing integrated photo blogging shortly. We have an initial release of our groups feature going live later today (if we get sign off from the client whose group we are launching) which incorporates forums, and blogging will follow hopefully for groups by next week and for account profiles in a couple of weeks.

This gets me every time... :) On uploading we are exactly the same speed as any other photo sharing site... The reason is because as the file sizes increase the advantage of having low latency (short physical distance) becomes less and less of an advantage all things become equal. On download (i.e. viewing pages) we are consistently TWICE as fast as flickr because for small files (i.e. thumbnails) latency becomes very important and we can serve them quicker. [But let's keep this thread on topic, so any comments to the above should really be posted over on this thread :)]

Another vote for wordpress, mine is a fairly low tech photo blog, it's just a normal blog with photos tacked on.

You get 3GB storage with it so if you're only uploading low res stuff this should last you a while. I'm pretty sure there are some good plugins that give you a prettier photoblog that just shows that days photo.

I also have my own site that I can host the shots on, but since you have flickr just doing what Calina says is a good idea, that way your viewers never have to actually go through flickr.

If your just giving people the path to your flikr then they will only be seeing your stuff on there as long as they don't click elsewhere. They won't see anything from anyone else unless they go looking for it.
