Hi, Does anyone know the rate of import duty Id have to pay on something which cost $220 so about €140. Does everything get duty added or is it the luck of the draw. Also do you have to go to the post office to pay the duty or do you pay the post man at the door?

    Thanks

It will depend on who delivers it really. If its an post and it gets stopped you will get a letter in the post telling you how much to pay, if its ups fed ex etc they will bill you after the item is delivered. Also the cost of postage is added to the cost of the item to make up the value that the duty is paid on :(

I think you have to pay duty of 12% of the total value including postage and then 21% vat on top of that. Then there is the fee that ups fed ex or an post charge which could be another €15.

Might be better off paying the slightly higher price and get it from the UK. Thanks for the quick reply

    As cobijones said, it's usually [ Total cost of items incl delivery ] x 1.12 x 21%

Sometimes it's the luck of the draw - depends on where you ordered from. If it's abercrombie or shipped by UPS then you'll be paying duty!

Does this apply to all goods from the USA or only on goods of $22O ie. is it much more for goods of $400+??
