Me too - i'd probably have entered my 280SL if they'd given me more than six hours notice.

To be honest I've been to several of the Merlin "Classic" auctions..............they were more like classic comedy than classic cars.

I got the distinct impression that they had a few empty transporters coming back from the UK and picked up every piece of cr4p they found along the way, together with a few overpriced, yet half decent cars, owned by folk who were looking for a fool with more money than sense.

certainly a long way from typical UK classic auctions.

I rang them yesterday to find out about a particular car (1974 BMW 2002tii) and they guy said that most of the cars didn't sell, just one of the mercs and some other machine. I asked him about reserve prices etc, and he was very vague - just said "er, they're off the system now so I've no record of the details"

He couldn't even refer on potential buyers as he "wasn't at liberty to reveal the seller details..."

All sounds a bit dodgy, and fits in with the other opinions here!
