If you don't have a credit card, you won't be using Paypal. It is safe, though that depends somewhat on your definition of safe. Plenty of people have had scammers do them out of money or goods, with no protection being offered from Paypal.

Aye, plus if you verify your account you allow other users to feel a little safer when dealing with you also.

You will need a credit card for verification. It is another way to show that you are the account holder and it will remove any limits that Paypal set on accounts for buying, selling and transferring funds. See here.

If you do this you are setting up a direct debit with them either through your bank account or your CC and this means they can take money out of your account any time they like. So when someone decides to scam you and does a chargeback on their CC, paypal will take the money straight out of your bank account if you don't have enough funds in your paypal account. Remember that there is NO seller protection if you are in Ireland. Seller protection only covers the UK and USA and any items sent inside or between these 2 countries. However even if you were in the UK or USA and fully complied with the seller protection rules, you will still get scammed.

"Buyer Protection" and "seller protection" are both non existant, they are just keywords Paypal like throwing around to get new customers but the small print ensures that the only people who are actually protected are ebay/paypal. It's only when a buyer or seller has a problem that they actually realise this and even if they decide to stop trading on ebay, hundreds more will have come along to take their place.

Paypal is the most dangerous method of accepting a payment however it can be the safest method of sending a payment, not because of any bull$hit "buyer protection" but because of the fact that you can always make a chargeback through your own CC provider.
