    Hi all,

I've got a 05 caddy and this moring it lost all power doing about 110KmPH. I looked behind me and all I could see was a big cloud of white smoke. Theres 130000Kms on it. Its a fleet vehicle, so cost wise I'm not concerned, but I'd like to know opinions on this.

    Thanks all.

I'll take a stab at a blown turbo........

white smoke = new pope :D

That ... or your headgasket is gone and you're burning coolant.

Check your coolant level and if you see bubbles rising in the expansion tank while the engine is running, then it's pretty definite.

Yup, sounds likely to be a turbo.

    turbo.

    sure?

blown turbo usually comes with an oil leak and black/blue smoke, doesn't it ?

Higher quality (long life) oils burn somewhat whiter than your normal mineral based stuff.

Plus, based on recent experience : SMOKE+VW DIESEL=NEW TURBO.

or 130,000km + VW diesel = new turbo / fuel pump / flywheel

Or the seals where 4 exhaust manifolds come out through engine block puncturing manifold and blowing steam down exhaust under pressure , happened to me.

Got away without poisoning cat thank feck.

Turbo and water pump and flywheel OK though but engine needs to be cracked and gaskets redone .

130000Kms isnt a lot to blow a turbo though

It sounds like you have a hose problem either split or come lose altogether,i would start with the hosing coming from the intercooler and work back,i would be 99% sure thats the issue.

Some of the replies made me laugh though! ha ha

Our fitter is having a look at it today, I'll keep you posted.

    very surprised at that...

    Was it remapped/tuning box?

Is this a trust worthy mechanic? i.e would he say its a blown turbo and get a handy few quid of your company?

No remap or tuning done to it. The fitter is 100% sound. could be due to the fact the caddy has been living in a quarry for the last 18 months:rolleyes:

    Chaps,

Just reading about the 05 VW Caddy with white smoke and lost power. It happened me on Friday but garage haven't diagnosed it yet. 125,000km on the clock. Surprised at the turbo blowing so early on. Maybel I am being naive.

Does anyone know if this case was the turbo in the end?

VW turbos will blow anywhere from 10,000k/m's and up(and occasionaly below that mileage) very common have seen them get 2 turbos before 100,000 k/m's
