    Hello,

I play bass and im looking to join/form a band. Im happy playing covers but would rather play original material eventually. Ive been in bands for years so ive a fair bit of experience but i NEED to get playing seriously again as im feeling rather rusty.

Im into a wide range of music from ur usual rock and metal to funk, soul, reggae and experimental/electric kinda stuff. Im very interested in trying some alternative mix of the usual guitar band set up and combining electric/other instruments - maybe along the lines of squarepusher, battles, or some crazy les claypool kinda stuff. Also If there are any other bass players out there who are up for trying some dual bass playing that wold be cool too.

And....if anyone is looking to form a Funk/soul band give me a shout!

    Cheers!

I tried that once. The results were not very good to say the least :).

Are you thinking of something like Ned's Atomic Dustbin?

    Hey thanks for the reply.

Yeah maybe something like that. I quite like the sound of Bear Claw as well and also Cop Shoot Cop. I was thinking of doing something a little different, maybe having one bass doing something rhythmical, slapping and strumming and another playing a more conventional bass riff or playing a lead line an octave above. I recon it would need a fair bit of experimentation, a bit of open mindedness and a good drummer!

Bear Claw and Cop Kill Cop are quite interesting! If I wasn't expecting to hear two basses I would definitely have thought there was a guitar involved somewhere :).

Unfortunately that is the biggest problem facing startup bands in Galway. There's a chronic shortage of decent, dedicated drummers :(. Especially when you're not just putting together another covers band.

Yep thats another thing ive noticed so far. Its such a shame as i didnt think it would be so hard to find a bunch of musicians in Galway, at least ones that would be up for something other than the usual rock covers.

I found this guy on youtube earlier, some really nice funk bass lines that he's looped and played over. Seems to work quite nicely!

    Hey Bloo,

I'm planning on moving to Galway at the end of August/ Start of September. I'm moving from Kilkenny with a great drummer. We'll be looking for a bass player and you sound like the man for the job. Original, energetic, music with elements of rock, funk, dance, soul, everything really so long as it's got a strong groove and never boring. We'll also be looking for a singer (probably female) and a person to play 2nd guitar and percussion.
Let me know if you're interested and I'll PM you with more details.

If you get the singer and drummer organised I would definitely be interested in a jam. I'll bring my guitar and my bass, that way we can get really creatve ;).

I'm an average guitarist, haven't played in a band since school pretty much (I'm 28 now) but I wouldn't mind getting into playing in a band, perhaps as a second guitar?

Let me know if you want to give me a go!

    Hi there,

We are an original band looking for a bass player. We are all from Galway too but living in Dublin. We are currently playing covers just to get us out there in the giging scene but want to stick to originals after that. We would be a soft rock kind of band nothing too heavy.

Email back if you are interested, and we can set up an audition/jam

    Sean

Hey,  (ten years later....) we are currently looking for a bass player to prepare for gigs in December. We played September in a few venues in Galway but our bass player has gone back to the USA. We play original music and our band is called Croi8. It's hard to explain our genre of music but it is a bit like progressive indie/folk-rock. Can see more info on us at www.croi-8.net. We have an album out "One Step Closer" which is available through Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Tidal, Deezer, etc. and on GoldenDiscs. Please let us know soon. Thanks a million, Barry
