Earphone repair (Etymotics)

    Hi,

I have two sets of Etymotics fail on me recently, on my iPhone.

The cable has failed near the plug meaning one channel is not working/working intermittently.

One set are pretty new (HF2 that have the microphone and button), but I took the cable apart to look at it, so I doubt they'll honour the warranty. The other set are normal earphones (er6i), and they failed a week later in the same way.

Is there any place that specializes in soldering a good plug on to the end that will be reliable, and covering them back up so they look OK?

It is a pity the reliability is bad as the Etymotics are crystal clear. iPhone earbuds are like mud by comparison.

If they are new why don't you use their warranty? Send them back anyway and see what happens.

I pre-empted that question in my original post - I took the plug apart.

... plus I have an older pair, the er6i's that don't have the microphone, that are failing now too.
