Flat-screen dilemma!!

    Hi,

I am torn between two different models:
    • Panasonic TH-42PY80EY (Plasma)
    • Samsung LE40A656 (LCD)
Both are full 1080P and priced the same (€1500) and seem to have good features but I guess the first question is - plasma or LCD?? I know this is an on-going question but in this example I am unable to differentiate the two - please help me decide!. The Samsung looks much better (as a piece of furniture) but which has the better 1) SD picture from NTL digital source and 2) HD picture from blu-ray player?

Also, the Panasonic comes with a 5 year warranty compared to 1 year on the Samsung - is that really a big deal? I mean it sounds great to have 5 years cover but is that a good enough reason to buy it alone?

Can anyone list the negatives to plasma apart from the obvious ones like burn-in and power consumption? Where is the Samsung better than this Panasonic?

Anyone have either of these already and comment on how they find it?

burn in rarely happens anymore on plasmas. i have a panasonic 42" and i use it for a lot of gaming and its grand.

on SD, the picture will be better on the panasonic. on HD, the difference will be less obvious, but still better on the panny.

LCDs are great if you intend to use it as a computer monitor, as they have a sharper image generally. but for video footage, plasma is better. dont get me wrong though, plasmas are still very sharp! but not artificial looking (like some lcds) im not overly familiar with the samsung but i know loads about the panasonic/pioneer plasmas vs sony & jvc LCDs
