saw a programme on bbc4 last night about these little black lads in some desert in africa.
they hunted and tracked an antalope for 8 hours. they actually ran him into the ground he dropped of exhaustion rather then an arrow or bullet. no dogs or nowt to follow the tracks. they could tell by the tracks which deer to go after and the pace it was travelling. and when the lost its tracks they imagine which way it went, they were in a trance like state. amazing.

they hunted as a pack so to speak then when they know the quarry is tired on of them takes off, a runner. he runs after this beast for 1.5 hrs in the desert sun, non stop, just keeps going and going. tell you this was un believable. they reckon all hunting was done this way before we had wepons on horses etc...earliest form of hunting. i'll let my hounds do the serious running;)

Those same lads ( I think you you're talking about San aka Bosjesman in slightly un-PC lingo ) used to hunt elephant with a puny little arrow steeped in poison. They used to shoot them in the rectum and track for hours even days until the poison done it's job. When that happened the whole clan would gather and butcher the carcass where it dropped.

Might be possible with a 3 legged chain smoking deer who likes a pint, don't see it happening here otherwise.

I'm surprised the PC police didn't hop off you for that one. We know there was no offence intended Whitser.

A shower of Ba$tards up here in Laois do the same thing. May they die of festered holes.

They probably figured that was easier than carrying it back to the village! :D

black is the PC safe term anyway, so its a non issue.

There's a degree of common sense that has to be used, I mean, it's not like he said eskimo (which is now well-known to be a derogatory term) or was denegrating anyone (hell, he was admiring their abilities). And besides, there is no right word to refer to the ethnic grouping involved here - "San", "Khwe", and "Bushmen" are all used but have all been used as derogatory terms as well as official ones. San, for example, is the official term (in South Africa and in academia at least), but it isn't what they call themselves (can anyone pronounce "!Kung"? and no, the ! is not a typo, it's a glotteral stop), "San" is just the word used to describe them by one of their traditional competing ethnic groups and only means "outsider" in their language, nothing more specific. Hell, we are San by that definition. And that's not even getting to the part where the ethnic group is roughly equivalent to "Celtic", complete with groups with strong individual identities like the Scots, Irish, Bretons and so on.

In other words, unless you were in that video and were offended, or unless whitser had actually been taking swipes at them, give it a rest because you've no grounds for any real complaint. :p
