How do you find out who has the shooting rights?

On a certain piece of land please? Comes from Marks thread on pigeons near Dublin. I didn't want to derail the thread. Are they expensive to buy, is there a going rate? General info as well as answer to the original question also appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    John

I suppose the land Registry office in Waterford would be a good place to determine the holder of the deeds. The big problem here is when land passes from one generation to the next.

Before anybody starts I Know just because somebody owns the land does not necessarily mean they own the sporting rights.

I've heard of stalking rights going for €17K up around the Glen. Some big shot from Dublin. It has not gone down too well with local stalkers.

Jonty is right. The current landowner doesn't necessarily own the shooting rights. In fact I'd hazard a guess that a lot of Ireland's shooting rights are still owned by some Lord Whatnot of Muffdivin' from over on the "mainland":P

Pullandbang is dead right about the sporting rights being owned by the Lords and Gentry. It'll be hard to determine who owns them

Unless Lord Goandaksmebillox comes down in person I'll be more than happy to proceed with the landowners consent.

The place to verify this is the land registry. The best way to put it I suppose is as follows : anything that affects the freehold status of land or property will have to be registered on the deeds. If there's nothing specific registered you can assume the owner has full freehold including sporting rights and can sell them, lease them, grant permission etc as he sees fit.

While this method will almost certainly establish who has the rights, I'd say it'd most unlikely to result in any sort of permission to shoot there being granted. :D
