Magnet Extra connection & set top box

    Hey,

Just wondering if anyone here has Magnet for their Digital TV and has got them to install/set up a connection point in some other room, a bedroom for example?

I'll be moving into an apartment and I think the room is "set up" for a TV connection but I don't know if there's a box and everything set up and ready to go, or if they have to start drilling and knocking holes in walls. If so, then it's a definite no-go.

Also what actually do they do when they arrive? Is it just connecting a set-top box to a connection in the wall?

I was also wondering if they have anything similar to Sky+

I don't have Magnet and the details may differ between different developments, but typically there is at least one network port in each room in the apartment and Magnet just need to connect a TV Set Top Box to this network port in order to receive TV in your bedroom.

No, unfortunately Magnet don't have a Sky+ service, you could look at a windows media center PC as an alternative.

    Cheers for the info.

Yeah I've just checked and there is a network port in the room. There's also one in the living room where the current connection is so it just seems to be a case of plugging the box into the socket and that's it.

It seems quite simple and wouldn't require an engineer to visit, but does anyone know if this is a requirement? I don't know if something has to be done to configure the other box as there'd be two connections now.

I tried emailing them but have received no reply. I'd like to avoid an engineers visit as that costs 99 euro and I think there's another 60 euro fee on top of that for the extra connection point, even though it already seems to exist. Weird.

just call them, i think its just €6 extra per month and they send you the box via courier.

    You are right.

The box arrived today and I'm setting it up now, or at least trying to. I've it all hooked up but all that is happening is that a "Loading..." message has appeared on my TV screen and the light on the Magnet box flashes every few minutes. It had been like that for about 30 mins when I switched if off then on again and it's still doing the same. Just wondering how long the whole thing is supposed to take and whether it's now a problem.

Its normally very easy to set up but sometimes there are problems, nothing that a quick call to customer services wont sort out. Do you know the number?

Got it sorted in the end cheers. I tried the box in the living room and it worked but when I tried it in the bedroom, I was getting a "Network problem" error.

I called the customer support people yesterday and after swapping a few cables around in the Magnet box in the apartment, it's now working. I'm not really sure how or why it made a difference, but everything is working so I will leave it alone.
