Fantastic news. Been wanting to see them for ages.

I'm a little confused though. Jim Carroll says the capacity will be 5,000 and be held indoors, while Ticketmaster states it'll be an open air event, which I presume will hold a good few more punters.

I'm sure that'll be cleared up before tickets go onsale.

It's in a tent. So techincally outdoors.

Saw them in the Olympia a couple of years ago and then later again that year at EP. The were simply amazing both times.

But on Ticketmaster it says "open air", which would mean not in a tent.

LOL wtf? Sounds good. They need to announce more acts for this festival...in fact any information at all would be good!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 122 ✭✭gymnipities

There's something up on the website now:
    http://www.adayinthelifefestival.com/

Not much mind you, just the date really. And either POD have it wrong (13/08/08) or everyone else does. It would be good if they could at least get that clear before they start selling tickets.

Looks like ticket release has been pushed back to this Friday.

Soulwax- Nice addition, Rocked the place in Belgium 2 weeks ago!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,739 ✭✭✭Jello

This will be amazing. Kraftwerk and Soulwax!

    Just noticed it's over 18's though :(:(:(

Anyone say I've a hope of getting in? I'm 17 btw, have gotten into several 18's gigs before, also have a decent fake ID.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭MikeHoncho

Im broke and this is gauranteed to sell out on Friday. If only the tickets went on sale a week later I would have the cash. Damn you POD concerts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,739 ✭✭✭Jello

Think I'll buy a ticket on Friday anyways... even if I don't get in I'm sure there'll be loads of people down there on the day looking for tickets so I'd have no problem selling it.

You really think so? Selling out the Ambassador is one thing but this is going to be a pretty large gig. I don't think Kraftwerk are *that* popular to sell out this venue in one day.

I'm going to wait til nearer the date...not too blown away by the support acts and i'm really getting sick of being charged nearly 100 quid for a gig.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Hmeemmm... I am a little concerned about possible sell out. I agree with eth0_, they're not exactly massive but with the small capacity. :/

I'm quite pleased that the festival ticket includes a bus from Dublin. Makes the price tag a little more easier to swallow considering transport to/from these things is usually like €20.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 570 ✭✭✭BrandonBlock

€90? I appreciate what they've contributed to electronic music but at that price they can go and f**k.

Not just Kraftwerk, starts at 3pm and there's 4-5 acts, sounds reasonable to me.

I'm not - I want to drive there if I decide to go. Why should I be essentially forced to pay for a bus ticket I won't use? Poor form!

Ya see I dont think there is parking facilities so you will have to use park and ride.
I reckon its some more of this pro-green nonsense.
    Load of ****.

Because there is no parkng, nothing but narrow windy roads up there. It was their only option. Even if you got a lift u turns would be near impossible.

Fingers crossed for sunshine and we're potentially looking at party day of the year. I'm just saying.........:D

Dunno bout reasonable.....Myself and a few mates are going to see them in Krakow, Poland on the 20th and 21st of September at Sacrum Profanum. Its on in a disused Steel Mill in the Nowa Huta district of the city.
Tickets for 2 nights of the werk, flights and 3 nights accommodation in the old town coming in at well under 200 euro pp. Cheapest tickets for the gig (still available as far as i know) are 18.00 euro.

I dunno, I'd rather get the bus to Wicklow for the day than go the long haul to Poland and deal with airport security and all that.

This is meant to be a great estate, used to be a big hippy hide out in the 60's as far as i know.....i'm sure there's plenty of back doors if it sells out....POD concerts should put on a good show....seems a little soon after EP....

Fair enough, Different strokes etc. They'll be playing a German set in Poland tho. Its gonna be one for the purist's!!

It hasn't sold out yet (after nearly 4 days)...

Aaarrggh! I can't go this time. Saw them twice, once in Frankfurt in 1991 and again in 2004 in Manchester.

Brilliant band - so different from anyone else

the park and ride thing sucks! I live in wickla and had planned on driving :(

does anyone know if Soulwax will play their 2manydjs stuff or their acousticy material?? I'm hoping for the former

I'm pretty sure that when they're playing as 2ManyDJs that's what they get billed as. So it'll be their Soulwax material on the night I'd say. Is it acoustic? I've never listened to Soulwax but always thought they were a full rockin' band type o'thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,739 ✭✭✭Jello

Yeah it'll be Soulwax live as a band. Certainly wouldn't be acoustic stuff they play, full on electronic rock!

I wonder if you could get a lift to somewhere nearby and walk in? It is ridiculous having to travel from wicklow into Dublin to then get bussed back to wicklow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

That really defeats the purpose of it being a green event when you're adding pointless extra miles onto the journey.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 313 ✭✭Ho-Hum

I think it's a gig catered for people from Dublin and anyone else can feck off as far as the promoters are concerned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 389 ✭✭boosh_fan

well maybe they'll put on buses from other locations too?

Ticket & Bus: Buses will depart from Dublin City centre, returning after the event Ticket & Park'n'Ride: There will be a Park & Ride facility from Leopardstown Racecourse where concert goers can park their cars and take bus from here to the concert site. Ticket prices include the Bus or Park & Ride facility. More details on transport arrangements will be available at www.pod.ie & adayinthelife.com

There is no mention of what time the buses will return to Dublin?? Concerned about missing the bus back to Dundalk from Dublin.

Thinking about getting a hotel at Leopardstown Racecourse or near Luggala? Does anyone know which hotels are walking distance from either??

Lugalla is in the middle of absolutely flippin no where! As for Leopardstown, I'd say you'd be better off getting a hotel in the city centre and using the parking facilities in town. From where I imagine that they're going to be having the park and ride beside the racecourse, it'll take a while to get to anywhere near the racecourse. Discover Ireland and Go Ireland and Ireland.com and what not can sort you out for hotels. See you at the paaahdeee!! :D

Thanks... Thats that Lagulla out then... The Bewlys Hotel at Leopardstown is only €89 for the night - Thats not bad. Hotel prices in Dublin City seem to be unaffected by any credit crunch thats for sure!!

It all rests on what time the gig will be over. If you're back in Dublin 11pm maybe its worth getting into the city but if its later than that, i'm sure this Bewleys place has a residents bar??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11 Bobby Dazzler

Just to let you know that Bewleys doesn't keep it's bar open even for residents so be aware!!! you could always head to club 92 but be very aware of what type of nightclub it is!!!!!!!

Do you know Leopardstown... What about the Beacon Hotel? Is that any nearer to the race course - and is it walking distance. Do you think they would be anymore relaxed about late night consumption?

God, this bus only thing is a nightmare... But it should all be worth it!!

A few of us are thi nkinhg of driving to Roundwood and walking from there

Aftyer a gig like Kraftwerk in the open air, no one is gonna feel like hopping on a school bus and being dropped off spending the rest of the night looking for a taxi

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17 soulsurf

Music line up looks good but what type of crowd do you reckon will be there.. an older electric picnic type crowd into the music or a young skanger coked up crowd???

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 76 ✭✭Davemcfar

Probably a mix of both. We're really just going for Kraftwerk so I reckon the best option is to just chill in the gormat food section checking out a few bands and what other craic is about - then be feeling good and healthy for the main event

Thanks Dave... would be nice to have a good crowd there to compliment the music... elec pic type crowd would be good but not a load of young aggro heads!!

Anyone know if any of the indie ticket shops in Dublin have any tickets left with the bus transfer to/from the City Centre? Been meaning to pick up a ticket.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,038 ✭✭✭penexpers

Think Road Records or Soundcellar still have some.
