I am planning to propose to my girlfriend later on this year and have been looking into engagement rings. I'm just wondering what do people spend on engagement rings these days, what's an average price? I know a few people who have got engaged but I wouldn't ask how much they spent on the ring.

Regardless of what you may think there is no *right* answer here, it is whatever you can afford.

Best of luck with it :)

2500K is a lot of money :D I guess you mean 2500 Euro?
Yes this will get you a nice ring.

2.5K will get you a nice ring here, so should get you something decent in Antwerp alright. It depends on what you mean by nice though! If you have a specific requirement, e.g. platinum 4mm band and 1 carat solitaire diamond, you may get a better answer here if you're more detailed.

Sure, some of these are much less: http://www.fortrez.com/
Personally I'd stop at a grand, but then I also hate diamonds (the whole trade/labour/blah blah).

Yep you should. Try to get platinum band though as the white gold need to be treated.

I did a search on Antwerp and got this post. Heading here too in a few weeks too and mailed a few places for quotes all listed on the ask about money site. Diamondland and Phillipe Harold were both very helpful and gave me a good idea on what to expect for my budget! Which is a lot more than here!!
If anyone can recommend some nice romantic restaurants or bars please let me know! :D

It also depends a lot on the kind of ring she'd like. I wanted a solitaire and when we were in the shop getting it I had the option of a bigger one but I thought it looked a bit too big on my finger and went for the smaller (and obviously cheaper!) one. No point spending a huge amount on a ring she doesn't like!
Saying that we went to Dubai and got it there for a fraction of what we would have paid here for the same ring.

you can also get the square solitare look with four smaller diamonds at the fraction of the price for one stone the same diameter,
my friends ring is gorgeous and cost £50.00 7 years ago. it is a yellow gold band, with a white gold heart and a cz stone set into the heart, its dainty and pretty and suits her fingers and looks like it cost a bomb.

my hand isnt as dainty and what i wanted looked daft on my finger so ended up spending less on something that was way nicer than the princess cut vvs1 3 carat that i had invisaged (wished for) when i first started looking:)
