I need to get a new Irish passport within the next month or so. Has anyone ever applied for one from an Irish embassy while over seas?
Presume I'll just need to give my old passport and not my birth cert or anything like that.

Contact the local embassy or consulate and find out. You probably need someone of authority to sign the photographs etc.

Oh god yeah, that was the worst part. It was in 2000 when I got mine in Germany....well actually, was Luxembourg in the end, because the embassy had moved out of my reach. I went to the police station to ask them to sign my photos, because that's where I went in Ireland, but they just said no, so then I got my Erasmus coordinator. He wasn't very happy about it at all, as it was outside his usual hours....it's a long story. Anyway, apart from that, you should only need your old passport, not birth cert.
