In songs like Lupe Fiasco's Little Weapon and Outkast's Babylon there are strange monk noises, similar to the ones at the start of the new mars ad. Does anyone know anything about these sounds, are they part of a specific genre or what? Where could I find some of these sounds?

might want to have look at some Enya albums to get similar sounding samples... although not exact monk sounds.

That sound is called a Gregorian Chant:

Used for the theme of Halo 3 as well IIRC. I'm not a big fan of it in any sort of hip hop unless its really done right e.g Lupe Fiascos "Little Weapon".

thanks, and yes some rappers use it and it goes horribly wrong but lupe got it right on the mark.
