New bench...

So I want to get a new bench as the heavier lifts are becoming less safe on my current bench (not so much construction, but the way the bar rest are those little u shaped rests like this). I want something I can just drop back if I can't manage another rep.

I was looking at something like this - about 299 in Argos I think - or this.

Any ideas, suggestions? I like that the Marcy one is fairly hurt-proof, as I work out in my attic where I've no spotter - hence my growing hatred for my current one.

    thanks in advance.

I wouldn't go for a smith machine, especially as you say you are doing heavier lifts, smith machines just aren't comfortable or natural...
How high are your cielings in the attic?
For max safety if height was ok I would go with a power rack like this

You could use your existing bench with it and set the safties in the rack to the right height...

Height is a bit of an issue alright. And yeah I prefer a normal bench though again it's more bout safety for me as there's no-one to spot and my heavy lifts for me are ones I'm struggling to do 3-4 reps and failure sometimes comes out of nowhere.

More and more i'm starting to like the look of this one so I might just take the plunge, looks good and solid unlike 90% of the stuff I was looking at in Argos, nearly every bench is a gimmicked up cheap one.

What would you say about that one, and could you advise as to how long delivery would be? It'd have to be here by the 26th...

Usually about a two day delivery after ordering. Depending on where in the country you are you could come into my gym in camden st, dublin 2 and try out that bench before you buy it, there is two of them in here.

Galway is a bit far away. :D

No, I think I'm gonna settle on that one - thanks a lot for the help. :)
