How to get 2 player in Super smash bros

    Hey this may seem like a stupid question but I'm having trouble getting a 2 player option in smash bros and was wondering how its done? When i get into the character selection screen there is only the 1 player icon or when i go to select other players it will only allow the CPU option. There doesnt seem to be a way to sync the second wii remote. If any one can help me out cheers its probably something simple I'm missing, thanks

    Hit the home button and go to wiimote settings. Then synch them both up. I have to do this every time I want to play multiplayer for some reason. Quite annoying actually.
