Fired up the macbook this avo only to find out that the zero key isn't working at all. It's driving me cracked not being able to type zero or close brackets! My little bro was using it last so Im thinkin he may have split something on it or maybe dropped some crumbs or food on it. I know you cant remove the entire keyboard but it it possible to take off the zero key off to see if there is anything there? I dont want to keep pulling at it and maybe break it.

    Thanks

I've never tried taking the keys off my (wife's) MB, so I can't comment on it, but you might try vacuuming the keyboard with the brush attachment of the vacuum cleaner - should suck out anything that's present.

My computer was crocked a while back and when I got it fixed the 's' was broke. they replaced the keyboard. I'm too busy to get it fixed at the moment. you might need to get it fixed.

If you use the hoover be careful. I sucked my backslash key right off the keyboard once :(

Thanks for the advice lads, I'll try the hoover (carefully) when I get home.

Be sure to do it with the brush attachment - it'll help prevent you knocking the keys about, and the bristles will get under the keys and dislodge the crud/dust in a way that vacuuming alone can't do. I find it brilliant for complex surfaces like keyboards and the front of stereos and TVs, especially speaker grilles.

Or reduce suction by opening the slot that's usually on the hose as well as covering the nozzle with a pair of tights ... if you, eh, have a pair handy :D

    First look at this.
    http://www.youtube.com/v/2Kg6EfuR-6Y&hl=en&fs=1

Note where the toothpick is inserted. There is a second part of the key which is translucent ( you see it later in the video ). This has a lug that clips into a tiny 'D' shaped holder ( There are two one top left hand side & bottom left hand side). You gently prise this lug out of the holder and the key will pop out. To reassemble you must separate the key from the translucent hinge, put in the hinge as shown first and then push the key home.

    Pictures might explain better.

Thanks for all the advice guys but unfortunately nothing has worked:( I tried the hoover but I didn't work. I took off the zero key and had a look. I all looked normal, I took off the 9 key to compare an they looked the same, no food, crumbs, stains or moisture. I'm thinking now it's a proper hardware problem -back to the shop she goes, damn and blast!
