Red Face - Clearing up complexion - Help needed with BLUSHING !

Hi, I am a 25 year old man from Dublin. My situation is this . . .

I have a good life, many friends and get along with my family. I have a good job that I like and all that kind of stuff is great, luckily for me.

My problem is that I have started blushing heavily in the last year or two. I have normal Irish skin, but rosy cheeks. When I was younger I didn't give a b*lx to be honest ! It's only now as I'm getting older that I've started caring - and I think that adds to the problem.

I am confident and have never had problems getting along with people or getting a girl. But this has REALLY affected me in the past 2 years.

Basically my cheeks are red most of the time - this is not too severe but when I exercise/go outside it becomes much worse. Also, when I'm in a pub or when something goes wrong in a social environment (even something small like a joke out of place or something falling out of my hand) my face just burns up making me more self-conscious and then this in turn adds to the burning ! Then for an hour or so afterwards I can't smile/laugh/talk to anyone properly all my concentration is on my bright red face !!

I am wondering if there is any way to sort out this problem. Is there anyone else out there that has the same problem ? What have you done?

I have heard of these solutions

    Proponal (inderal) beta blockers

cutting a nerve under the arm (eft or something)

    hynosis ?

It's really getting bad and happens nearly everytime I go out now and I am stopping going out and avoiding social sitiations now becasue of it

    Thanks for your help

    James

Thanks but I went to my GP

    She said it wasn't Rosacea

She wasn't that helpful to be honest - but said it wasn't rosacea.

You could maybe try using a green coloured primer (primer is what some women use under make-up).. The green colour of it helps to tone down the red.

Or you could try using bio-oil... It helps even out colouring..

It seems like its a bit of a confidence issue as well as a skin issue. There is probably a lot of different skincare treatments that can help with reducing the redness on your cheeks - one I know of is Prescriptives Redness Relief Gel which does what it says on the tin.. http://www.prescriptives.com/templates/products/sp_nonshaded.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY13716&PRODUCT_ID=PROD5603

or I found this one http://www.dermalogica.com/product_dir/product_detail.asp?location=UK&Region=A&ProductId=118&Category=moisturizers

I get those horrible red attacks in many situations - if I'm stressed/nervous/excited/upset/too much drink! I have heard of those operations where they cut the nerves under your armpits but it's a bit extreme! And the more you think about it the redder ya go! I've never looked into it myself really. Someone said to me before just to think of blue... but that never helped. maybe Hypnosis?

have to admit im prone to the odd bit of blushing myself, in fact i blush even when alone if i think of somthing embarresing! ive tried the green tints and i found them useless to be honest. must try thinking of blue! and op have you ever noticed when you do blush some really clever person feels the need to point it out to you (as if you didnt feel your neck and face burning up!)

OP, I feel your pain! Or, I used to anyway..

The fact that they're red all of the time suggests that there may be tiny broken capillaries that you wouldn't really be able to see amongst the redness. These can be targeted by electrolysis or laser. Maybe book an appointment with a skincare clinic.

I had electrolysis done on mine - maybe six sessions in total (50euro each) and it toned them down a lot. It's painful enought but worth it. A small needle is inserted into the capillary and it 'zaps' it. Tiny little scabs remain for a few days where the needle broke the skin. The area around the capillary tones down in redness as well so the overall redness is less. The woman who did it described it to me as drying up a main river - all the tributary rivers, dry up too.

The cheeks are still not free of redness but I don't mind a little bit to stop me looking washed out and I go out and about without make up, whereas before I wouldn't have. Funnily enough, I don't seem to blush as much, maybe it's because I'm not so conscious of being red so don't think about it.

Laser probably doesn't hurt. I looked into it at the time but it was more expensive. They said you're left with a bruise in the area for about a week.

You've nothing to lose by going to a skincare clinic. They might just be able to help!

    Thanks for all the answers

Does anyone know anything about laser ?

    Any other suggestions.

One person PM'd me with some and they help thanks - re: no coffee, cold showers etc.

    Any other suggestions . . .

This is really wrecking my head to be honest.

Basically looking to clear up complexion :(
