Recommendations for a Friday pub crawl

I have four friends coming over from Scotland on Friday morning and we're planning an all day sesh.

So its a big dublin pub crawl on the friday.

Ive been in Dub-land for a few years and know some of the good pubs but wouldnt really venture in to town that often (i have a brilliant local) - so i need recommendations for the best pubs that dublin has to offer.

I dont really want to take them to flashy modern pubs - you can get them anywhere - but would much rather have the really old dublin pubs - along the lines of the stags head, kehoes, cobblestone, donny and nesbits, mulligans, grogans etc.

Is there a recommended dublin pub crawl route that would fit the bill?

    Gentlemen, start you engines...

You might get some ideas here ... we did a thread on this recently or the week before.
Some great ideas, and plenty of kebab stops too. :)

One of the later posts by Brother LostInBlanch has a complete route worked out, this comes highly recommended.

    Enjoy!

I'll post here as you may find this useful. Firstly a big thanks to the Brothers for their advice, this is what we ended up doing:-

Charles Fitzgeralds then the Eaglehouse, start off local before grabbing a cab.

Baggott Inn (Great, we got there about 6:30, stayed there for about two hours. Had a good bit of banter and a great laugh pulling pints. Not sure it would be my choice later though as it started to get really busy as we were leaving.

o'donna's just up from baggot Inn, suggested by our taxi driver, great pint of Guinness, actually, an amazing pint of Guinness and a bit of diddly dee music for the tourists.

Dawson's Lounge, been there, seen it done, didn't buy a tee Shirt, or a beer mat or any other tourist tat that they sell more of than Beer. OK but its just a very small pub. You do get a strange sensation having a piss whilst people are walking 6 inches above your head though.

Coccoon, yes that's right, Cuccoon. Blagged our way in saying we were meeting James:rolleyes:. lasted one pint before it just got too pretentious so we had to leave (Good spot for a mid pub crawl dump though:D) It was obvious were weren't regulars as we didn't drink champagne or snort cocaine:P

then a couple of pubs on the way to some pub by Christchurch, can't remember the name. lots of beers from around the world. got stuck in there til chucking out time(Actually lost the ability to walk) so didn't make the Porterhouse or the Czech Inn which was a bummer.

Made it to Lapellos though, jesus, i was legless but the women still looked ugly. No way would i spend money on them.

Great night though and cheers for the advice.

That was The Bull & Castle.

    Great pub.

    Great pub.

    that's the one.

My ability to read pub names had gone by that point. I would definately say that should be on anyone's pub crawl list.

Hi i am new here today!!
I was wondering if anyone can help me out here.
I am a professional fruit machine player and i was wondering, does DUBLIN actually have any fruit machines in there pubs/bookmakers???
I got told there wasn't many, so any info regarding this would be appreciated.
I actually live in Scotland, so i don't want 2 waste time coming over there for no reason you see.
Any responses would be great, thanks.

    Regards
    ROB (the Jock)

Fruit machines ? No idea. You probably won't get a straight answer in this forum.

If you are serious, you could try the Dublin City forum ... maybe someone there will be able to help you.

    Good luck -> http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=474
