Anyone know where in Ireland / Internet you can get Dunlop Loco golf balls?
Haven't played in a while and lost my last two yesterday.
Tried e-bay and Amazon and they only have the 'motion' ones.
I'm just looking for the original 'Crazy Long' ones.

    Cheers

AFAIK only certain "sportsworld" Heatons stores do golf equipment. If you find a sportsworld one it will probably have the Locos and other good value balls. BTW I also like the Loco balls.

Heatons at Blanchardstown in Dublin has them.

What's so good about these balls lads? You often hear them mentioned as a good "cheap" ball. Are they mainly distance or are they decent around the greens?

I buy used ProVs online and the main reason is the action round the green and the feel when you're putting.

Although I've a couple of boxes in the boot I haven't got round to playing them yet.

However reading all the reviews they seem to be as good as balls costing much more. They maybe aren't in the Pro V1 category but for the average golfer they are much better value.

There's a few different styles if I remember correctly and anyone correct me if Im wrong:

    Crazy Distance - Distance Ball
    Crazy Bite - Spin Ball
Motion - Not quite sure... :p

I find the distance one's great as they produce very little spin, and I have a bit of a fade so reduces how far right it tends to go.
Having said that they do stop alright on the greens aswell...

Personally I find little difference between any of the balls sold in Heatons
    Top Flites
    Locos
    Donnays
    etc.

Feel much the same although I would suggest that the Donnays don't go as far as the others (but that could be a placebo effect) I have no major difficulty chipping and pitching with these balls on Irish golf course greens. Maybe if I was playing on greens like those in Augusta I would have a different view.

It amazes me that so many mid and high handicap golfers are obsessed with Pro V1s while looking down their noses at balls like the Loco and Top Flite. if you are a 5 HC or less then yeah, perhaps you are good enough to make good use of the Pro V1 characteristics around the greens. For higher handicaps - practice - not expensive balls - is surely the key to improving the short game and getting the handicap down. A dozen box of new Pro V1s is roughly the same price as a dozen Donnays + a lesson :D

The household shop (Heatons) in Tallaght had tons of them a couple of months back. Not sure if they are in Carrickmines yet but they should be there soon.

Agree totally on the theory that they are fine for all but the single handicappers. Major issue with high handicappers is that they dont buy new balls (imo) and play with scuffed and scratched balls that may in some cases cause more problems then they are worth.

I have used the Locos and in matchplay or a big comp rotate a new one in every 9 holes or so, maybe its mental but I think it helps to play with a new (ish) one

I reckon use of cheap balls also results in faster play on the course :) When someone hits a Pro V1 into a water hazard they will often spend time looking for it even though it's a lost cause and they'll be taking a drop whether they find it or not.

This is not an issue when the ball is a Donnay :)

    SOme good points there.

I play with any old ball when I'm messing around or having a friendly game. In fact I rarely use a new ball when it doesn't really matter. My main focus here is in scrambling (getting up and down).

If it's a competition then I'll use a better ball or new ball.

If it's matchplay then I'll use a very good ball. I don't like loosing good balls so I'll concentrate a bit more........ :)

Very good point about using cheaper balls and taking lessons. I also guess that scuffs and nicks loose you more distance than what ball you play with.

Aces, I work right across the road from the square so I can nip across on my lunch tomorrow and check it out.
    Cheers

Completely in agreement. Infact I find high handicappers playing with a Pro V1 actually play worse as because the ball generates so much extra spin and high handicappers often have a fade/draw/ dont always hit straight.
    It just exacerbates the problem....

I have a handicap of 16 (reducing) and I have recently started using ProV1s and Maxfli Noodles. I find a huge difference in the 8 iron to putter range. More feel and definitely much easier to putt. In captains prize on Sunday I played with a Noodle for 16 holes - 5 under net - joy! Then put two out of bounds of the 17th tee - despair!. Crazy game this golf!!

Also, any idea where you can get the Loco Hybrid Iron?
I know the pro shop in the range in Spawell used to do them but not any more...

Anyone seen the Loco Hybrid Iron or woods anywhere??
