Nip around to your Neighbours in Westland - they'll let you know what condition it's in.

its in its fostex box inside another box.

it was stored for sometime in a humid country, but was never exposed to the air.

Yeah, talk to Dierdre Westland as they are very experienced in tape restoration/transfer due to number of Multi's that the studio has recorded since the seventies and have the "tape baking" process down to a tee. I mixed a tape from 1990 recently that had been baked + transfered to protools and it worked out great.

Unless they got an oven recently, it'll be sent away. It's not too be expensive really.
Don't play the master tape until you are ready to do the actual transfer.

Fostex was a 1" machine a.f.a.k. Use another tape to see is the machine working.

The tape can start sticking to it's self as the it begins to degrade, depending on how it's been stored. I've seen tapes stopping the transport on an pro 2" because it was stuck so hard. It can also shed it's oxide coating across the heads if it's on the way out.

Slow baking is the way to go, D. will be able to send it off to be baked. It's done at a low temp. over a day or two. They use incubators sometimes oddly enough.
You should ideally transfer the tape to digital and then mix.

Yeah, beechpark have an oven on site.
They don't have a 1" machine though, you'd have to supply that if you want them to do the transfers.
