...having a dedicated unlocking thread for techies who know what they're talking about. I, on the other hand, haven't a bloody clue and all the searching for the last hour of my wretched life has been wasted in the pursuit of having to ask what is probably a very quick question.

The last time I tried to unlock a phone (2 in a row, actually, 6230is) they broke almost immediately, I believe as a result of not having the correct net settings.

I have a Vodafone PAYG 6230 that I want to give to a mate that's on O2 speakeasy. How can I unlock it -without blowing it up- thus making a pr*ck of myself in front of my friends???

Whikle you're on a roll, there Davton, is there any other settings I need to change. As I've said, I think it was failing to adjust the net settings last time caused it to cr*p out???

the internet settings shouldn't cause any problem or to cause the phone to break.

No, as mirco said shouldnt affect it. Only thing is to have the voda sim in the phone, and profile set to general. Just double check the code, and the right amount of * 3 and 4 times to bring the P and W etc.

It is done- thanks to all and the the moderation team for tolerating an out of thread unlocking question. Internet isn't a big deal for me mate as long as the phone won't crap out, so all is good....
