Thinking of getting UPC in

    Hi all

I am based in Newbridge, Kildare and currently have Sky Multiroom and BT Phone and Broadband.

Have found over the last year that the broadband is crap. Also looking to save a few euro so have been considering getting UPC Max pack (Basic TV Pack, Phone and 20MB Broadband).

Has anyone in the area got the same and is the quality and service worth getting?

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks

The channel line up isn't quite as good as sky. The broadband is excellent. I'd recommend getting it on the BB alone.

As Paul said their channel line up is nothing compared to Sky but they have a brilliant phone and broadband service ;)

If I were you I would not go to UPC.
Sky has better channel line up.

Sky's boxes are just miles better than UPC's.

Their Sky+ box is excellent, and has much more functionality and is much more user-friendly than UPC's DVR.

Also, Sky have HD and interactive services whereas there is no sign of that coming from UPC despite their previous commitments.

I know nothing about their phone/broadband options but cannot comment but UPC's TV service is simply a mile behind Sky's as is their customer service.
I am an ex-Sky user forced to use UPC because I live in an apartment block (which is surely corruption in it's most blatent form!) and I would switch back to Sky if I could.

    Thanks for all the response.

I am aware that the channel line up on Sky is much better, but having said that we don't watch an awful lot of TV and find that when we do it is the same few channels we use the whole time. Al these channels are available on UPC.

The main reason is to save some money and improve my Broadband quality.

As far as I understand if I do get the UPC Phone and BB it will not support call-backs on the sky boxes so I will be continuing to pay full whack for the multiroom instead of getting the discounted price.

I think I will try it and see how I fair.

    Thanks again

You could get UPC broadband with no TV but this incurs a ?6 charge.

This can be avoided by getting the phone service for €4, a saving of €24 a year.

    Mick

You would be nuts to go near UPC for TV services. It will drive you crazy and then you will end up in our mental health system and they probobly have no TV there at all. Sticjk with sky, UPC equipment and software is useless.

    Hey folks

I agree that UPC are shyte - I have my non-DVR digital connected to a media centre PC, and the picture quality is dire (too strong compression resulting in fuzziness/pixellation). And the new PACE STB - doesn't respond to the remote-control all the time the way it should, so many times I get mis-recordings.

Anyway, you guys are saying that Sky's channel line-up is better. Is it ? I couldn't see Film Four on Sky's line-up (correct me if I'm wrong) and UTV (I am from Belfast so do tend to watch UTV). If it weren't for those, I would switch to Sky.

Please tell me Sky does have those and it's just not clear from their sky.com/ireland site

    Film 4 - 315 & 316

Peeps, i have 20mb from UPC which is great i have to say and i also have their TV package on LCD TV, have MMDS in 1 room and Cable DVR in the other.

MMDS service is behind Sky no doubt but DVR service is quite good.
Had SKY but got sick of flicking through 400 of the worst **** channels ever added to TV. Picture quality SKY leads no doubt but crazy charges for Repairs / LNB's / Replacements Boxes etc all which are scrapped with UPC drove me away from them. Not to mention phone charges etc for their BB............ Jeasus i forgot why i actually left Sky but its all hit home again.

If your a TV nerd then it has to be SKY, if you need a gud BB service and correct me if i'm wrong but best speeds to subs outside Fiber and Business regions it has to be UPC. If you want to save sheckels then it has to be a UPC combo !!

Last thing is i do a bit of work with a company that has a BUSINESS 10MB from Eircom and they are paying €€€€€€ for this and it is ****E to say the least.

    Enough said !!
