You might ask to see what support groups are available.

sorry was meant to say i have tried to look too for groups but there is only aware which is more depression based than bipolar and some of my "issues" are a little too detailed for it.....

Aware have counsellors for 1-to-1 work, its not all groups.

    Hi Lisa,

I´m BP,15 stable years now.You say the meds are working but can you explain why you feel the need for therapy?

i have only been diagnosed just under a year and although the meds are doing wonders i dont want to rely on them solely i know cbt has done wonders for some people of course with the meds too!also(am not feeling sorry for myself here!)i dont have any family support other than my husband and i dont wanna dump on him all the time:oand i think maybe with cbt it will help with some of the symptoms that meds cant help with:).....btw its great that you are stable and diagnosed so long...gives me great hope.

Yeah...BP is a serious illness but it´s eminently treatable.:)

As Victor suggested,Aware can offer the kinds of support that you are looking for.Their services are free to the best of my knowledge, which is just as well with the price of docs and meds these days.:)

The very best of luck to you!

    hey OP,
good to hear that you've got your BP under control!a lot of therapists do like a graduated price scheme(there's a proper term for it, i can't remember),they basically take your financial position into account, how much you earn etc, so perhaps contact your local autority to find out about someone in your area?

My mother-in-law is bipolar but doesn't accept that she has any illness. She's extremely aggressive towards her daughters and has constant conspiracy theories.

It's very tough on my wife and her 2 sisters.

Is there any kind of support/advice group for families affected by this illness?
