    Sorry, Deamons?

    Looks interesting.

Yeah I found that quite strange also. Maybe it's going to be some sort of metaphor - a guy giving into his demons? Mark Wahlberg definately has the right voice, and it does look like it's going to be totally crazy, but doesn't mean they'll be able to pull this off.

The 2 are my favourite PC games ever.

Yeah from what I played of Max Payne there was never any flying demons. I haven't played that much, mind you, but enough to go "eh?".

Doesn't look too promising to me though. They seem to have largely discarded the film noir style in favour of exploding **** and dodgy CGI. May turn out decent, but will never get excited about a video game movie.

I like it. Whalberg is perfect for the role too.

well in fairness to them, it can't be easy to pay homage to a game that was paying homage to a movie genre - if they were 'faithfull' to the game it would probably turn out horribly clichéd! It was also be 90+ minutes of bullet time!

The Frank Miller comics and 'Constantine' called.. they want their style back! :D

Ah no.. looks good alright. But I don't know if I can forgive Marky Mark after his "performance" (or lack thereof) in 'The Happening'

Hmmm i had not interest in this until i saw the trailer.

Hmmm, looks interesting. It would appear that the story is being kept intact, but not the style - although there again if they kept the style intact it'd look like a Sin City knock-off...

As for the demons, I'm not sure what's going on there but perhaps they've substituted that in for the dream-sequence/hallucination parts of the game which had Max walking along bizarre blood-tightropes while babies cried in the background...

Looks good - In fairness, who wants to see a re-hash of the game's plot, which as mentioned was paying homage to several noir flicks and cop thrillers, with the hong kong blood operas to boot. Perhaps the angles/demons are part of a dream sequence, similar to the trippy ones for which the games were known (was there one in Max Payne 2?).

Anyway, as long as there is plenty of Max narration with over the top metaphors and gravelly tones, i'll be happy.

EDIT: damn, beat me to it Fysh!

Everyone is allowed one f*ck up! I would blame the director. Look back at the characters in all M Nights movies. All quirky or "underplayed".

It's like getting Robin Williams to play the nutjob! It just doesn't work

That looks bloody brilliant. I had my doubts when I read that they were shotting for a PG-13 but from the looks of the trailer there appears to be plenty of blood, a very dark tone and the narration is excellent.

I think the pg-13 thing doesn't mean a lot really. Anyone remember when Bruce Willis was talking on AICN website (I think it was?) and saying how Die Hard 4 was going to be a pg-13. They can use as much blood as they want, as long as they don't say the f-word more than twice (or something)

Off-topic but I thought he was excellent in 'Insomnia' though a smidgeon over-the-top in 'One Hour Photo'

You can have one F-word in a PG-13 but not as much blood. I'm just afraid that we'll get amazing shoot outs but they cut before anyone gets hit or do what they did in King Arthur and have heads rolling but no blood anywhere.

If you skip to 1:15 in the video to the left of Wahlberg is something that looks just like the Punisher symbol.

It just looks like a lamppost to me.

But the pixelation makes it appear quite similiar to the Punisher logo and a friend of mine is adament that it's the Punisher symbol so much so that he's currently showing the vidoe to everyone he works with and demanding that they see what he sees.

looks promising enough I have to say. Was quite sceptical when I first heard it but he defo got the voice for it. Wahlberg is still one of those actors I'm not entirely convinced I like yet.

Here's hoping it's not anything like Hitman was. Although Max Payne was more depth than Agent 47 did.

Have to agree with this and other points that have been made in the thread. I am excited about it as it was such an immense game & series, but yet I should not be after traditional Game tie-ins...

When I saw Sin City I thought there was no way that this movie could be made as the style would be an exact carbon copy.

Hopefully they pull through with this!

Anything can change in a New York minute:). I loved the little monologues in the game but despised those ****ty dream sequences. Could be a good film.

There better be some awesome monologues in this film. It certainly looks interesting, I love the Max Payne games so I hope they pull it off.

Pity John Woo himself is not directing since the game was inspired his movies :D

If I may be a little pretentious in relation to the appearance of the winged demonic form at the end of the trailer - my guess would be that its a symbolic representation of the effects of the drug at least one person can be seen taking in the trailer. If I remember correctly, there was a drug called valkyr in the first max payne game. If it is symbolic, I personally think it makes the film even cooler.

Very impressed with the trailer personally - loved the colour palette and am relieved that the whole film wont be Wahlberg suspended in mid air while a camera flies around him in bullet time :)

Good job John Moore, nice to see an Irish director doing well.

Bad news.... Max Payne just got a PG13 rating in the States... cue a pretty tame movie with lots of gunplay but feck all viscera... "Unrated" DVD version in February will be the one to watch.

I'm more curious as to the nature of those angels in the trailers; it does look like they're pushing a more supernatural angle...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

I think the PG13 was pretty much to be expected at this stage, Wahlberg and Co made no bones about it in interviews. I wouldn't bemoan a lack of blood as long as they kept the film dark (some baby-crying blood trail dream sequences please :) ). I agree with Basquille's comment as well, from the trailer it had a bit of a 'Constantine' vibe to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

I doubt they are literally angles/demons/valkyries, more likely we are seeing some sort of dream sequence or drug induced hallucination.

Yeah, but it's a PG13 movie; fictional drug or not, I doubt very much a PG13 film would be allowed to feature any kind of narcotics?

Slightly disappointed with the PG13 rating but I'll try and remain optimistic. The trailer is the best I've seen in ages, the music really makes it....

True, sex and drugs are still off limits in movies where you can have all sorts of upsetting gore. However, I would find it hard to tell a decent Max Payne story without some reference to the original valkyr superdrug plot.

Maybe this one will have Max Payne fighting zombies on mars? I hope they don't go down some stupid kiddie route with the plotline, *sigh*

Everytime this trailer comes on in cinema i get goosebumps i can't wait for it :D Really think Wahlberg is perfect for the role this time, and looks dark enough to mimic the games, which were so cool to play :) And the music? wow...just wow

Really want to see the trailer in a cinema (hopefully tonight!) ^^ I also get chills but that's just on my comp with headphones!

Hopefully they do a good job on it! From the trailer it does look promising...

    🤪

I'm tempted to reinstall the game and give it a quick playthrough. I don't think many games up until it was released were quite so atmospheric. Hopefully the movie does it justice and doesnt just become fodder for the "why game to movies dont work" camp.

Really liked the first game, the second one was pretty disapointed as it practically played like an add on....hardly any new features...

You can buy the first one in game shops for like a tener...

Have the poster of Wahlberg with two shotguns on my wall and I have to say that it looks absolutly amazing. Every time the trailer plays in the cinema I'm on the edge of my seat and loving it. The whole PG13 aspect does'nt faze me that much as it was always intended to be shot for that rating and all involved have gone on record as saying that it is a very dark and adult film. If Moore can get the balance right and get the mood set then we could be in for a treat.

Max Payne Is Top Gun at the Box Office
Max Payne, the videogame adaptation starring Mark Wahlberg, shot up an easy win at the box office, even as two of the weekend's other new releases — The Secret Life of Bees and W. — performed nicely, finishing in line with their respective estimates.
The No. 1 action flick grossed $18 million from Friday through Sunday. Although not quite on par with the debut totals of some other game-based movies, like the most recent Resident Evil films, which blew away more than $23 mil in their premieres, Max Payne's premiere number is a marked improvement on the first-weekend sums of Wahlberg's previous two gun-totin' flicks, last fall's cop drama We Own the Night ($10.8 mil) and early 2007's Shooter ($14.5 mil). And here's another sort of backhanded compliment: It's a good thing the movie earned as much as it did this weekend, for its lamentable CinemaScore grade of C portends a limited audience in the coming weeks.

Its also supposed to be sh1te - Moore is a hack - all the movies he has made are cack.

Mr Walhberg has made some gems - Planet of the Apes - The Happening and now this...

    http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/max_payne/?name_order=asc#contentReviews

He is having quite the year..

The fact it opens at no 1 means nothing - see where it is next week when word leaks out how bad it is.

I think Righteous Kill was at no 1 in its first week as well - and thats a seriously bad movie ....

I got loads of cinema posters for this, they are undeniably some of the coolest posters I've seen in ages. Despite the bad reviews I'm definitely still going to see it.

    Watched it tonight ,very disappointing.
Firstly up Mark Wahlberg should never have been left near this project.
I honestly dont know how he gets work in Hollywood.
He is an absolutely appalling actor.
He is emotionless for the whole film with his usual wooden acting.

The script is pretty weak overall.
The action scenes didnt have much suspense and there wasnt enough bullet time .
    It just felt flat overall.

On a positive note there are some nice nods to the games and the sets look like just out of the game.
