:o I'm after deleting my D drive.... Help!!
I've tried going to the Tosibha website etc but I'm not technical enough to figure out how to fix it...
Any ideas or should I bring it to the doctor?

By d: drive, do you mean your cd / dvd rom drive? or a hard drive?

What model laptop? I assume its a toshiba. If you have a model number it might help.

How do you mean? Was the D drive a hard drive or CD ROM or a partition of C? List what you have under Disk Management (right click My Computer, Manage, Disk Management)

The CD/DVD driver is no longer working.. the computer thinks there isn't a d drive anymore, it's not listed... -I installed an incompatible program & deleted it but deleted 2 other dll files that I shouldn't have with it.
I've gone to device manager etc but can't fix it.
    It's a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120.
Sounds awfully foolish I know to have deleted them.

If I put a cd in, it will spin around as usual but it's not connecting with the programs, i.e. cd's aren't playing - WMP says there is "no drive" available.
Hope that makes sense, sorry, I'm more of an applications girl & not a techie..
Like I can drive a car but I can't fix it if it breaks down.

You need to get the DVD drivers from the toshiba website I would think.

I'm finding the Toshiba website impossible though.. the model isn't even showing up for available downloads & it's only 2 years old.. huh?

Don't think you would need drivers for the CD/DVD drive, did you try restarting the computer? What is the model number?

Ah jeenie, I'm not that bad, first thing I tried was reboot.

Try a system restore to before the point when you removed the drivers.

What would that involve... I don't want to completely mess up the computer..

Vista or XP or what OS are you using??

Stupid question but if you manually deleted them they should be in ye od recycle bin.

System restore is easy enough and fairly painless. You'll find it under Start, All Programs, acessories, system tools. Pick a date before your problems and follow the instructions.

It will repair the C:\Windows folder etc and will not affect your documents.

if the restore does not work, go to the control panel and into device manager and right click your cd/dvd rom drive and update driver , see if you can restore your driver that way,

    besk of luck

    d.

No, it's gone from the recycle bin already, that would be the easy.
I'll try system restore because I've already tried to update the driver but it's saying the driver I have doesn't need updating - I dunno, but it won't update anyway. Thanks for the help. I'll try the restore solution tomorrow evening. :)

System restore didn't work. Going to have to bring it in to someone.

In Device Manager, under "System", uninstall the "PCI Bus" entry. (Right click/Uninstall)

    Say no to reboot.

Now, click "Action/Scan for Hardware Changes" and let that machine re-detect hardware. After all is done check you d drive under My Computer.

    You may need to reboot
