I'm looking for a app that will convert pdf's to jpg's without losing quality, some thing that can do it in batches would be even better.

I have PS CS3 which can convert pdf to images files but it's very unstable on the pc, bsod  not sure what the issue is there, something to do with ram i think.

As i'm against time now i wont be able to fix the pc issue and start converting, take ages anyway, so i'm looking for a program some has used before.

I don't know about batches, but the standard Acrobat reader lets you copy a single page image to the clipboard at a time. If your document hasn't too many pages, you might like to try this.

    What I do:

    Select the PDF page
Adjust the zoom and view, so it fills most of the screen.
Click Edit - Copy File to clipboard (it says file, we mean page )
Then fire up Paintbrush, and paste the image.
From paintbrush you can save it as a JPG.
Play with the JPG options to reduce the file size.

If you do try this, you might see a "copying to clipboard" message when you quite Adobe.
That's the Acrobat reader trying to copy all the text from the entire file, and dump it to the clipboard (as text). I think that's the real purpose of the "Copy File to Clipboard" function ... the image part is a handy bonus that I tripped over one day.

Dunno if that helps you ... I'd like to see a batch process for this too.

I don't think that would work to well as quality could be low for the image file then.

I need to convert some, well a lot, of my college projects from pdf to jpg so i can put together as a3 portfolio for interviews.

There's a number of programs that can do it but it's hard to choose one that might do what i want. Hence me asking if anyone has a program they've used.

Or if someone wants to help me sort out the bsod's...

Image quality has not been an issue for me ... I suppose it depends on how detailed your original PDF files are, but it seems like you have a sizeable number of files/pages to process.

Thinking about it, you don't actually need JPG though, am I right ?

If you just want to get an A3 portfolio, I wonder if you might be able to use another image format, such as multi-page TIFF ... which could cater for the multiple images per PDF file.

I have a dim recollection of reading about this in a book ... which I might still have at home.

I'll post back when I get home.

    Why can't you use PDF's ?

Is it your requirement to have each PDF page as a single JPG image ?

/EDIT - A few minutes with google found this http://www.intrapdf.com/convert_pdf_to_jpg.htm

It's commercial software, 14 days free trial ... maybe worth a look.

    Found that software as well.

The pdf's i have are of drawings, some will have more than 1 drawing or detail per sheet. I'm compling a a3 portfolio of, what i would call, my best work so i'll be copying from the different pdf's to make 1 a3 sheet.

gonna checkout that software in a sec, prob woun't let me convert averything i want it to or something

    Dagnabit!

Is it worth buying though ? Price seems reasonable to me.

Honestly, i'd rather try to figure out whats wrong with the pc that it BSOD's when i open a pdf in photoshop :D

I'll have another look around tomorrow to see what else might do the job, maybe someone one here knows a program.

Can you not just use something like Word and insert >picture>from file the PDF's. Quality would be a lot better than JPG which is dire and you can arrange as required.

    Got this program http://www.pdf-convert.com/ can do 2 pdf's a time :D

You should not use jpeg if you want to preserve quality as it is a lossy compression format. PNG is the file format you should be looking at.

Also, I'm pretty sure imagemagick supports pdf. It will export to whatever format you want, all on the command line (so you can automate it).
