    I have seen the second one in craft souviner shops. They would not be pure turf something would be mixed with the soft turf to stop it cracking when it dries.

    I don't know what though! You could try a bit of plasticiser they use in cement, it might work...

    Stick a post in the woodturning forum someone might know about it there..
