Church Music Ideas!!

Hi all,

I'm wondering about actual music in the church. We'd like some fun tunes as well as classical. Our music man is a friend who has not played in a church wedding before so we are all at a loss on what to play!! Any advice?? Thanks

This might sound obvious but really whatever sort of music you like would be the best place to start. What do you mean by 'fun' tunes? Also, what sort of musician is your friend? E.g. will he be playing recordings or playing piano or what? You can incorporate pop or rock songs into the ceremony (I've seen it done and heard of a lot worse) but do think about the lyrics of the song, even if it's going to be instrumental because people might know them so you do need appropriate lyrics (not necessarily love songs though!)

Pachelbel's Canon might be good as it's classical but very well known - almost like pop classical. Some of Carolan's tunes might also be appropriate and would sound nice on piano. (e.g. Carolan's concerto)

My advise is check with your priest first! We had roy and tara http://www.royandtara.com playing at our wedding and they advised us on this in advance (thank god!) -some priests will NOT allow any popular music at all!
