I know some of you in here are into your watches, wondering if anyone has heard of damasko?

    http://www.damasko.de/eng/index.html

Anyway they are made in germay, a family run business ( i think at the moment there is just one watchmaker), similar style to Sinn but better made if anything.

These are notoriously difficult to get despite their lowish price (mine is the DA36 which is the intro model €750 prices steadily increasing :(). I ordered mine on the tenth of Jan from the one authorised reseller that would actually take my order ( a guy in Germany).

It arrived 2 weeks ago, and i love it! It is also one of the few sub €2k watches that actually holds its value, sometimes selling for above RRP second hand.

    Some reviews:

Here are some web pics and one real one (excuse the rubbish pic :p).

It joins my small stable which also includes a marcello c tridente and a Precista PRS 20

    nice

I thought it was going to be one of those huge, ugly metal yokes that so many people have.

    understated and very sweet

That last one looks like a Tag... then again, all watches look the same really, there's only soo much you can do...

Can't say i'm a fan of your watch OP, but congrats.

I plan on picking up a Tag myself, was never really into watches until i started work in a jewellery store, we sell Tag and i can't stop playing with them:)

i've a 2003/4 omega seamaster (stuck the year in as to show it's not the new ones with all the gimmicky james bond features).

it's a great watch, but i find i can't really wear metal bracelet watches with my work as they get scratched very easily when typing hence the idea behind the planet ocean.

planet ocean looks great on leather and bracelet :)

personally i prefer the black bezeled 42mm version

the last one is a diver style watch, of which the rolex submariner/sea dweller is the original and best, any tag or anything else will be using the design as inspiration :)

be sure, if you buy a tag, to avoid the quartz models

    Why so?

However, the two i'm leaning towards are both automatics. The Carrera Chrono or the Aquaracer Chrono, the one with date and day because of the larger case. I'm a big guy so most small watches look kinda stupid on me... I'd probably prefer the non chrono carrera but it's just too damn small. Classy watch though:)

Then again, I'd prefer the Grand Carrera:D

a quartz movement is worth about $10 at most, so if you buy a watch with a quartz movement and a stainless steel case an awful lot of your cash has gone on marketing etc

at least with a mechanical movement there is something of value and some craftsmanship in the watch:)

    I guess so...

TBH, if there's anything to put me off a quartz movement it's the price of a battery change with Tag!

Then again, if there are any problems with the movement on the automatics after warranty has expired then it could prove costly to get it repaired.

once it is out of warranty any decent watch maker will be able to service a tag, the movements are generally based on ETA movements which are widely used :)

Ditto a battery change, altho while the watch is in warranty you dont want to void it by getting someone else to change it!

then again, you get your watch serviced by professionals and they'll take good care of it, any old fool can change a battery.

speaking of which my seamaster probably needs to be sent off for a service.
