Flight Cancellation Options

    I have flights booked to Chicago for myself and my wife with Aer lingus which were booked online. We are due to leave 31st of July. Due to circumstances beyond our control we may not be able to travel on that date. What options do i have? Will i be the loss of the money? Have never been in this situation before so some advice on my rights would be appreciated. Tia

    Change them to another date and you wont lose that much. Otherwise depending on your travel insurance and your reasons for not travelling, you may be able to claim the tickets back on it.

    If you are just cancelling them outright, you will get the fare back but not the tax.

    Thats completely the wrong way around.

    You are entitled to the tax back NOT the fair. However most airlines will apply an admin fee which is equal to the tax when processing the amount due for refund.

    Just found myself in a similiar situation except the flights in question are for this weekend and are booked with Ryanair. Has anyone ever cancelled flights with them? There's no mention of it on the website and the 'Customer Care' line is automated....

    Yes, AFAIK you can do it online or you can ring reservations and change it that way

    No such thing as cancelling them with ryanair unless is a bereavement. You can apply for your taxes back though.

    The only place you will find out what your options are are on the T&C of you tickets, read that first.

    If you have travel insurance read that as well, that may help you.

    I have flights booked to fly to Chicago on the 31st of July with Aer Lingus but due to reasons beyond my control i can't go on that date. Would it be possible for me to change the dates and fly July 30th next year? On their website it will only let me change up to June next year. Tia

    Airlines tend to only allow bookings about 11 months in advance to stop people booking the wrong year.

    They also have less idea of how much flights will cost that far in advance.

    Is the 11 months set in stone or if i rang them would they let me book more than 11 months in advance?

    Simple answer is no. Airlines dont have the capability to book more than 11 months in advance.

    You could try changing to a date currently in their system and then change again when July 09 is in the system. Expensive business though.

    I'm pretty sure it's set in stone. It's an industry standard to only have travel times and dates ready 330 days in advance. They just won't have the info for the end of July next year.
