Yep, a good sale allright. Lots of DVDs movies for cheap too.

One the boxsets that stood out was the Battlestar Galactica boxset (i.e. Miniseries + Seasons 1 - 3) for 30GBP (38 euro) in my local store. Thats nearly 50% off the RRP.

    thanks

Not to mention 'House (Seasons 1 - 3)' for €35..

.. far superior to BSG IMO.

Is House good ? It has never appealed to me...but then again Ive never watched it. Always seemed a bit bland.

Just started watching it there recently, seen 5 episodes so far, and i think it's pretty good. Although already i am finding it quite predictable.

i agree, someone has to die soon. House needs to fúck up a case.

Stick with it lads.. House is excellent!

House is fine and some of the episodes are interesting but dont they just follow the same formula throughout the whole series.

First 15m (ish): Strange medical situation arises (often interesting)
Second 15 (ish): Brainstorming meeting, whiteboard, original solution implemented, doesnt work
Third 15m: Is he/she going to die? need to look deeper into history, brainstorm
Final 15m: Nothing is working, House stumbles on a solution by chance, often something that occurs to him while dealing with one of the story arc on hospital administration or with the models that are there are juniors, House saves the day with 3m to go. Final 2m, everyone is glad that House is a genius.

Maybe that should have a spoiler alert. It has to be said that the same formula is well packaged every week, and not bad for a mindless hour. CSI of the medical genre.

That sounds like a great sale... might pop over to Zavvi tonight.

Don't give up on House. Its a very rewarding show, and consistently excellent. There are very very few episodes where you say "Well, that was sh*t...." :)

Yeah its formulaic, but there are some surprises.

Some DVDs I picked up in the sale:

    The Proposition - €7
    Battle Royale - €7
    American Gangster - €7
    The Thing - €4
    Apollo 13 - €4
    The Descent - €4

Haha. Thats exactly it. Just like CSI. Every episode so far seems to just follow that exact formula without exception. Il stick with it i guess for a season and see about the others then.

Anyway, back on topic, some of the dvds mentioned are great bargains. Battle Royale and the Proposition are both great movies, and some great prices for those box sets. Get down to Zavvi.

Although i have noticed the trend over the past couple of months of all dvds going way down in price, probably with the inevitable introduction of blu-ray as the new format. I wouldnt go out and buy too many dvds IMO.

Meh.. simply buy a Blu-Ray / HD-DVD Player (while they're still in production) so you can have the best of both worlds.

Or better yet... buy a ps3 which is also a blu ray player so you can play, dvds, blu rays and use it as a games machine.

Noticed that Planet Earth BluRay is 54 euro in the sale. This is a good price compared with 79 in HMV :)

    Cheers

Or better again, buy a Blu Ray/ HDDVD combo drive and have cheap HDDVDs and a multi region Blu ray player, got mine for about €200 about 10 months ago so they're probably much cheaper now.

Thats an amazing deal, but a new HD Bond Set is inevitably around the corner.

I dont live near a HMV so I dont mind. Its just a pity they dont have a good sale for xbox 360 games as theyre pretty poor offers on them.

American Gangster is E7 as against 12.99 in Xtravision. Pretty good. Great movie.

Hit Zaavi in Edinburgh o burn all my stirling and I got

    Sharpe- Legend edition 30
Battlestar Gallatica Miniseries and Series 1,2,3 30
V for Vendetta, Independance Day, Fight Club, Sunshine of the spotless mind, Alien vs. Predator and Commando, Predator and Terminator all for around 3pound each

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,676 ✭✭✭jayteecork

I actually got Sonic and the Secret Rings for 10 euro, minus a euro student discount.

It was on sale for 15, but came across a copy with a ten euro sticker on it. It scanned through as 15 but she changed it to 10 anyway.

New Wii game for 9 euro ain't bad.

I hardly ever went in to the one in Blanchardstown when it was Virgin because you never got good deals and their sales were rubbish but I was in Zavvi on Thursday and bought a DS Lite for the brother with an acessories pack and Touchmaster for €150, they had tons of good dvd bargains too but after bbuying the DS I was a bit short of cash.

They have a great selection of dvds at either 3 for €30 or 5 for €50.
