Stressed at work

I started a new job six months ago. I was worried sick that I wouldn't be able to do it but after a while I got used to it and was happy enough.
However recently I ran into a problems (twice) and was unable to cope. I don't think you could class it as a panic attack but I got fairly stressed out. The type of job it is I can't really get help when things go wrong as I am on call and when something goes wrong I have to go out and fix it on my own. For the majority of the time I have been able fix what was wrong, sometimes I have had to call a colleague to ask him something but even the other more experienced guys have to do that.
However I am worried that when I come across a problem in the future I will get all flustered again and lose my composure. There is pressure in the job but I can't leave it as there are very few jobs out there right now as you know.
I am also worried that I will get the sack or be viewed negatively by my boss.
I don't even know why I am posting this, I am just so worried I can't think of anything else.

Take a deep breath.... you have six months down and only twice have you been in a pickle.

These are minor little anxiety attacks and everyone worries like this.

Take a deep breath and try to calmly assess the situation.

Make sure you keep your phone at hand so if you need advice its close by.

Sometimes I get these too if i think i have forgotten something in work or left my oven on. you need to think yourself through it

I work in a stressful line of work for the last 6 months too & sometimes i am left on my own to work out problems myself but you only need to realise:

    • that the job hired you in the first place because they felt you were capable, you were right for this job.
    • If you learn to think more postively & not doubt yourself you will do better.
    • Everyone makes mistakes, no one is born knowing everything no matter how hard some ppl try to tell you they are...
    Hope these points help!

I should have no reason to be worried as I have been doing OK so far (I think).
I just want to be a success, I can't stand being viewed as failure by my friends or by my boss.
I have always been someone that has to fix things by myself, without anyone's help.
I also take criticism very personally and dwell on it afterwards.

hey you need to stop bein so hard on yourself it sounds like youve achieved a lot..
i get the same thing, well a deep feeling of no i cant do this, its a bit ridiculous my boyfriend will tell me i can and rationalise for me and i still wont listen. but sometimes u have to just believe in yourself. sorry that sounds a bit soppy. try and relax and as the others said rationalise the situation. eg. i can sort this out, this isnt gonna get the better of me. think more positively which, i know, is hard, but it will help u a lot if u can try and relax and believe u are capable.

Hey OP you don't have to be perfect, no-one is and your employer wouldn't expect it. You're setting your standards too high and that's causing you stress. You need lower your expectations of your self. If you try to get 100% of what you do right, not only will you fail but you'll work yourself into an early grave trying to get that last 10%. If instead you aim to be above average, say at the 70% mark you will achieve it without going crazy. Being a perfectionists can be a curse, I've always wondered why people say they're in interviews, when asked those stupid questions.
