Irish HD - what's the roadmap?

With the DCMNR trial approaching the end, what is going to happen next regarding an Irish HD TV channel or indeed channels?

There is at present a total lack of an Irish originated HD channel on Sky and I'm personally in the dark as to RTÉ's intentions or plans to provide anything other than the existing HD Ireland trial DTTV channel.

I feel we are at a similar position at the moment to the late 60s/early 70s and the rollout of colour. Back then RTÉ were fairly slow off the mark with colour, and did not really offer a full colour service on RTÉ TV until as late as 1976, in contrast with the BBC & ITV in the UK, who were almost full colour as early as 1969.

Perhaps it's the same now with HD? At the very minimum I would like to see the existing HD Ireland service ramp up to being a full time channel on Astra 2 and on the Irish DTTV network. Better still it would be good to have TV3, TG4 and RTÉ offer their own full time HD channels...

I never saw anything of the TV trial and I assumed the HD channel was a BT concern.

I am not going to get too carried away with DTTV and possible Irish HD channels. Over 12 months now there has been DRM radio facility in place and doing absolutely nothing. Money thrown away?

All this DTT equipment that is planned to be installed or is in progress? RTENL seem to be rushing this through. I wonder with the current economic climate and that 'R' word hanging over us is there a rush to get DTTV in place before a certain House in Leinster has a change of mind.

The trial was never really about a Road Map.

Zaphod! Shame on you posting that as the HD Roadmap.

We all know that is the secret vonRyan Express Broadband backhaul.

I think RTE is more likely to think of this when you talk about HD.
