    Hi,

am upgrading my gaming/mce machine and wanted to know about S3 standby.

When I built my current mce - the mb had S3 standby, but some newer boards have STR - sleep to ram and others state nothing at all.

Should the mb I pick have some sort of S3/str or do they all support this?

Don't want to by a mb and find out I can't sleep it thru mce afterwards :o

    thx

    K

    In particular this board

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=335581&view=detailed#ProductTabs

it just has Wake on LAN (WOL), wake on ring (WOR)

    K

    edit

the board supports - WfM 2.0,DMI 2.0,WOL by PME,WOR by PME,WOR by PME
but not sure if any of these are similiar to S3 or STR ???

I have an Asus P5[somethign]-[something] MB and it sleeps and wakes up wonderfully to ram to disk and all kinds of other stuff - works great with MCE (vista). You can even set it so that the remote control power button makes it go standby and the case power button makes it hibernate (good for when you power goes and your on a UPS with no screen).

HOWEVER, from my research the most common S3 problems are due to dodgy graphics cards and/or graphics card drivers.

Your OS might wake up and your MB might wake up and your graphics card might look like it went to sleep ok - but it nevers wakes up in some (or all) situations. I've also had a problem with audio not coming back after resume but that seems to have gone away (perhaps a bios/driver update).

However, when it works it's a think of beauty! :)
