Sigma 18-125mm Vs Canon 17-85mm

I'm looking for some opinions on these lenses:
    1. Sigma 18-125mm
    2. Sigma 17-70mm (F2.8-4.5)
    3. Sigma 18-200mm (OS)
    4. Canon 17-85mm (IS)

I have the Canon 17-85mm on a 40D body but the lens recently gave up on me so it's time to buy a new lens. I also own an Canon 18-55mm kit lens, 50mm f1.8 and a 70-300mm IS also.

I really like the range with the Canon 17-85 although I've never been overly happy with the quality/sharpness of the results. Has anyone any experience with any of the Sigma lenses? Ideally, I'd like the Sigma 18-200mm as the range is fantastic and it would be a great walk-about lens but whats the quality like in comparison to the Canon 17-85? For the price and the size/weight of the Canon 17-85mm and considering the results are not too hot, IMO it not good value for money.

    All suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Have you sent the 17-85mm away to be repaired I'd imagine that it's still under warrenty. No point in have two lenses

id recommend going for a 17 to 70/85 as alot of these super wide to telephtos lenses can have pretty bad image quaility,The advantge of the sigma is f/2.8 at wide might be great for shooting places at night also maybe groups of people in a pub etc.None of the other lenses have that

I have the sigma 17-70 on my 400D, to replace the kit lens, and i have to say i really like it. compared to the kit lens, its such an improvemnt. the kit looks and feels like a toy compared to this. its really quick and quiet. has a liitle trouble focusing in low light,as with most lens's.

I havnt put it to the test at its widest or longest ends of the zoom, but im still happy with it. there are some absolutely fab reviews of this lens online, which sparked me to get one.

I have a sigma 70-300 for distance shots, so didnt need any more of a zoom, and from my investigations, unles your buying Canon L lens's steer clear from those lens's that go from very wide ( 17-24mm ish) up to a high zoom (over 100mm). Its too great of a zoom range for a lens to be perfect the whole way through. even the smaller ones ( 17-70) are not perfect from one end to the other, but their distorsions are at least not very noticable and quite correctable in photoshop.
