Supplements will do very very little unless you've got your diet and workouts up to scratch. Even then supplements will only help a small amount. What sort of diet and exercise do you do?

Might be better suited for the fitness forum

i do kickboxing twice a week and run 10k at least 3 times a week. but was wondering if anyone else doing a martial art was also using supplements they could recomend some. im now training to do a 16k run for charity.

Diet is everything tbh. Post your current daily activity levels and an honest diet.

I have taken cod liver oil, glucosamine, calcium and zinc.
I took them mainly to keep my joints loose and cartilage strong. I am off them now and although they did have an effect for the better it was negligible.

yeah diet is very important and you should get everything you need from it unless your looking to build where it then becomes hard to get enough into you so you use supplements. I am on protein supplements but only because of work commitments, i find it very hard to get the time, so its an easier way to keep on top, also as mentioned cod liver oil very important if your running and also a vit c supplemet. I take mine (VIT C) after training as ur immune system is very low when you are training-get colds very easily. I have used creatine (celltech) i know a lot of people dont consider it one of the best, but personally i think it is the most effective i have ever used, with almost instant results. However i am not recommending that you take creatine as it has been mentioned to cause liver problems. Its entirely up to you and your true needs. Anyway goodluck with the run and your training. :)

If i can afford it i take ON WHEY protein+NOX CG3,it's from xyience, multi vit,cod liver oil,vit C but after taking supplements for a while now, i have found nothing can substitute hard, intelligent training and lots and lots and lots of water.

as mentioned before you should start with sorting out your diet
but I believe that cod liver oil is not nearly as effective as fish oil -try and get one with low mercury and high omega 3 levels-
and I also believe the fuss about creatine to be bad for your liver as bull****

there is no sports specific suppliments, thats like saying theres a sports specific food.

Suppliments, ironically enough, should be used as a suppliment to your training and diet, not as a central source of nutrition.

I see lads coming out of the supp shops with like 5 different tubs of some **** they heard ron coleman takes, but I could make an edcated guess that their diets are **** and they dont train properly.

Dont worry about the suppliments until diet is in check, and even then youd be hard pushed to find anything you need to suppliment, unless of course you want some creabolic ethylmagic Nos+30, I think thats pretty hard to come by in whole foods.

The jury is still out on whether creatine actually does anything, it makes ON and the likes a few quid but as to helping us train?
I was reading that theres no actual proof that our bodies actually store the extra creatine we take in, then again theres no proof they dont, but all it did for me was put on a kilo or so of water weight.
    nothing to see here.

i dont know about the long term effects of creatine-only what i have heard so therefore would not recommend people to buy it, but would still use it myself. On the weight gaining side, i did notice an increase in mass, however it was mainly water but what i like about it was the kick u got off it during training. I suppose it would effect every person differently but i noticed a huge increase in power, speed and recovery. however only really from celltech....the others that i have used werent really that good it terms of noticable improvements.

    200+ scientific studies say otherwise.

Where did you get this one?

Definitely lifted heavier when taking creatine. Could definitely get an extra few seconds at full clip when sprinting when I took creatine, however my creatine use also coincided with heavy training phases, so I may have made those improvements anyway. The water retention was a pain in the ass though.

OP, if you're doing 6 or more hard sessions a week and your diet is 95% perfect (lean meat, veg, seeds, nuts and some carbs), you're drinking lots and lots of water and you're sleeping well, then you start thinking about supplements. However in my experience, your diet could always be better. Even when you think you're spot on you're probably not.

Myself, pills and oil make me gag so the Glucosamine I take is in this scaldy orange drink you can get in the chemist. It's rank enough but it des taste vague;y of orange so I don't have to drink it over the sink!

    Try Animal Pak

Great for all round training, weights and Cardio (though there is an Animal Cuts Pak specifically for cardio Ephedra free too)

But the lads are right, supplements are a waste unless combined with a strict diet and training routine....
