Part time employment

I currently have a full time job but will more than likely be made redundant by the end of the year. I have seen a job advertised locally that I would be ideally suited to but the problem is that it's part-time (17.5 hours per week).

My question is simply, is there any kind of income supplementation available for someone working part-time? (I would expect to earn 15-16k PA if I got this position). If I was receiving any kind of benefit would I be expected to be looking for full time employment?

I am quite willing to take a cut in pay for this job as its one thats very much related to what I studied in college but at the same time I still need to be able to live reasonably comfortably.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

You need to be looking for full time work to claim anything such as jobseeker's benefit/allowance, so if you plan on taking the part time job and not looking for either another part time job on top of it, or an alternate full time job, or full time hours within that job, then you won't be entitled to anything as it's your choice to drop down to part time hours.

However, if you are married with children, providing your partner is not earning a lot, you may qualify for family income supplement. Check the welfare site for details.

I'm just finished college, working in an off license about 15 hours per week while seeking full time job. Would I be entitled to anything? Anyone know how much roughly?

I could be completly wrong but dont the SW calculate earning on a 5 day week, so if you are only working one or two days a week, I think you can claim for the rest, if you have enough stamps. No idea how much it would be, but doubt it would be much.

    Open to correction.
