Hi, I'm living in Coleraine up North.

Can anyone advise what I need to get RTE through terrestrial?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you mean the digital trials, only two sites are currently carrying the service, Three Rock in Dublin and Clermont Carn in north Louth. I doubt if you could get a signal over that distance, also the digital trials are due to finish at the end of July. Some Board members have submitted posts referring to digital upgrade work being carried out on other sites, but when these transmitters are likely to start transmitting the digital channels is anybody's guess.
I live about 20 k's NE of Newry and even with an 18 element aerial and mast head amp, I can't get a signal at all, yet RTÉ analogue is a grade 4 picture!

Analogue there is usually pulled off Holywell Hill, Group A UHF aerial. Perfectly watchable w/Teletext and NICAM in Portrush.

I live near Hillsborough & get dtt loud and clear on an 18 element with mast head. I think that I have pretty clear line of sight (if you could see that far) to claremont though!

    Sky.

Holywell Hill is very close to the Derry relay but just inside the border, aiming towards Derry should do it.

As goes where to get an aerial, I'm just a (very) frequent visitor to the area, not living there so I'm not sure, sorry.

Here is more info on the tx.
And further down on the RTÈ site for the radio channels. Try to pick up one of the Holywell hill radio channels first. It's usually an indicator if there will be reception on TV possible.;)

    Thanks Smeagol I'll try that.

Can you recommend an aerial, I'm in Coleraine, really miss stadler and waldorf (Dunphy and Giles). :D

Nice name btw...brilliant book and film.

I would have thought the Moville relay would be a better bet for RTÉ in Coleraine than Holywell Hill?

    You might be spot on.
Note, you'd need a group B aerial for Moville. And again, check the radio channels first.

    Thanks folks for your help.

I agree, I think maybe there's too much mountain between here and holywell if its the other side of derry. :( However Moville may be even better

Any recommendation about a Group B aerial would be very much appreciated.

All the hotels / houses I've been in in Portrush have TV3 also (which Moville won't have), but it is also slightly further north than Coleraine so could have a cleaner line on Holywell.
