EsatBT PPPoE - Draytek Vigor 2820n

    Hey guys,

I recently got a new router at home, the Draytek Vigor 2820n. It has a built in ADSL/ADSL2+ modem and I'd like to use it to replace my current setup (zyxel modem in bridge mode).

The problem is I'm not sure what settings I need. There are two tabs for the ADSL WAN interface page: PPPoE settings, and MPoA (RFC1483) settings.

You can only enable one of those tabs at a time. ie. if I enable PPPoE then the MPoA tab is disabled. This is where I'm confused since as far as I know EsatBT use RFC1483 as the protocol to connect, but that tab has no where to enter username and password unlike the PPPoE tab above.

Anyone any idea how I can use this router as my modem as well? They have a demo of this router on their website, so maybe someone might see the needed settings there.

    Cheers,

BT use PPPoE. The settings look ok.
    What problem are you having?

Well, unfortunately the router doesn't seem to have good diagnostics for what the problem is. I tried to connect using those settings (pppoe enabled) and on the status page it shows:
"HANDSHAKING", then "READY" under ADSL status. But I don't get an IP, instead it says:
    Message [ PPP Shutdown ]

One thing I noticed is I'm using this ADSL firmware:
    ADSL Firmware Version: 211801_A

They provide other ADSL firmwares here too: ftp://ftp.draytek.com/Vigor2820/Firmware/V3.2.1/
Any idea if EsatBT require a different firmware?

    Thanks.

You have to make sure that the DSL settings themself are right. As far as I'm aware these are across the board in Ireland. Make sure in the modem the VPI is set to 8 and the VCI is set to 35.

    Hi,

I enabled the syslog and grabbed the following details. My username is in the style of "myaccount@iolbb". These are the details from the WAN log:

I removed some duplicate entries (Status=READY / HANDSHAKING etc.) to trim the output above. The log continues on in that fashion, DSL rebooting after a few seconds. I'm not sure if there's anything useful there though so if there are other logs which may contain more information I'll gladly post them.

    Thanks,

I had a bit of time to play around with the router this evening and managed to get it to sync and connect. I'm not 100% certain of the cause, but I did a factory reset in case something in the configuration conflicted, then did the wizard setup. I changed Modulation from "Automode" to "G.DMT" also, and now it works :)

    Thanks for the help,
