But alas only if you have BBC4

Featuring Fitzcarraldo, Aguirre, Wrath of God and Werner Herzog: Beyond Reason. Both the films are obvious choices, pity say Nosferatu or Stroszek weren't included.

    Mike.

Always preferred Woyzeck - now that's the kind of movie they could (and should) be making here.

Shame they're not showing one of his documentaries as well. Beyond Reason is class

So what did everyone think? I only saw Aguirre and the interview with Alan Yentoff.

Didn't realise Herzog was shot by some nutter with an air rifle in that Culture Show 2006 interview? Wtf??

Watched Aquirre last night and it was a spectacularly odd piece of film-making. What an eerie, intelligent slice of madness. There's something about the blackly comic tone of Herzog's film that really lifts them above the norm.

Ah,wish I had BBC4:(. Enjoyed Beyond Reason. Loved when his editor (think it was his editor anyway) spoke about Herzog freaking out the American crew on Rescue Dawn by doing scenes in one take. Saw his documentary 'My Best Fiend' a few months ago, about his friendship with Klaus Kinski. Weird and fasinating.

I loved when the editor was talking about Little Dieter wants to fly and who better to reenact the capture/imprisonment/torture scenes but the victim himself! That and Rescue Dawn would have been a good double bill, showing both his documentary and story making sides - ah well.
