freeview on sony 40w4000

having problem getting freeview on my sony 40w4000 tv im using a sat cable from the dish to my tv go to auto start up but still nothing if i put the sat cable in my ftv box it works perfectly so why wont it work in my tv ??? what could be wrong

The digital tuner in your TV is for digital terrestrial broadcasts only (through your TV aerial). It is completely incompatible with satellite signals even though they are digital too!

I assume that your "ftv" box is a satellite receiver of some kind. You mentioned having a dish. Leave the receiver connected to the dish and connect it to your TV via a scart lead etc.
