I've tried beer and it worked ok but my lawn is overwhelmed by slugs, is there any animal safe remedies on the market.

I'd need a brewery to get rid of them all!!!

Also while i'm here, mushrooms are sprouting up on the lawn too, about 10 of them this week. Any help appreciated.

Normal household salt, just pour & watch the poor little sluggies melt away!

There are organic slug killers available, ask at your local garden centre. Even the conventional ones are unlikely to harm a dog, most of them are treated with an animal repellent and anyway would need to be in fairly large quantities. You could always go out after dark with a torch and a bucket of hot water and harvest the buggers by hand. I would not, however, recommend putting salt on your lawn, unless you want to get rid of the grass as well.

i'd have said a hedgehog would be a dog friendly slug killer, but i know that dogs can be human friendly hedgehog killers. plus, hedgehogs are usually flea ridden.
a friend has frogs in her back garden, and seems relatively untroubled by slugs.
